Your generosity has made a lasting impact on students throughout our school community.\r\n\r\nBecause of your donations, we were able to add many high-interest and popular titles in Spanish to our school library. These books have quickly become favorites among our readers. It has been wonderful to see Spanish-speaking elementary students light up when they discover books they can read confidently in their home language. At the same time, high school Spanish students have enthusiastically checked out these titles to strengthen their language skills while enjoying engaging stories.\r\n\r\nProviding books in Spanish has created opportunities for students to see themselves represented in our library while giving language learners authentic reading experiences. Whether students are building literacy in their first language or developing proficiency in Spanish as a second language, these books have become valuable resources that support learning, confidence, and a love of reading.\r\n\r\nOne of the greatest joys has been watching students excitedly browse the new collection and recommend favorite books to their classmates. The increased interest in our Spanish collection has demonstrated just how important it is for every student to have access to books that reflect their language, culture, and interests.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped create a more inclusive and welcoming library where all students can discover stories that inspire, educate, and connect them. Because of your generosity, our students in grades 1–6 experienced one of the most exciting and meaningful literacy programs we have ever offered.\r\n\r\nEach week, students eagerly gathered to watch the random wheel spinner select the next backpack recipient. The room would fill with cheers, smiles, and anticipation as everyone hoped to hear their name. Even students who weren't selected that week were excited for their turn, making the backpack a highlight of our school community.\r\n\r\nStudents loved selecting books, snacks for the entire family, and a coloring book. These simple gifts created special evenings at home where families could read together, share a snack, and enjoy spending time with one another. Many students proudly returned their backpacks eager to tell us about the stories they had read and the memories they had made with their families.\r\n\r\nThis project did so much more than provide books. It encouraged a love of reading, strengthened the connection between home and school, and reminded our students that reading is something to celebrate and share. For many families, these backpacks provided opportunities to build literacy skills while creating lasting family traditions.\r\n\r\nThis was truly one of the most successful DonorsChoose projects our library has ever received. The excitement, engagement, and positive impact were evident from the very first week, and students are already asking when the backpacks will return next school year!\r\n\r\nYour generosity has made a lasting difference in the lives of our students and families. Students eagerly designed and painted rocks, then hid them around the school for others to find. This simple act sparked excitement, connection, and a sense of shared community. Students checked back daily to see if their rocks had been discovered, building a culture of kindness and curiosity throughout our campus.\r\n\r\nAt the same time, students dove into learning how to crochet — many for the very first time. What began as a challenge quickly became a source of pride. Students showed patience and perseverance as they practiced stitches, supported one another, and celebrated their progress. For many of our students with disabilities, crochet and tactile art provided a calming, focused outlet where they could succeed, express themselves, and build fine motor skills.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us make our library a place where creativity, inclusion, and school pride shine together","fullyFundedDate":1766673741358,"projectUrl":"project/hands-that-create-hearts-that-shine/9811879/","projectTitle":"Hands That Create, Hearts That Shine","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dearmore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9606440_orig.png?crop=373,373,x10,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742512481939","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9606440"},{"teacherId":9606440,"projectId":9198832,"letterContent":"Your support transformed our classroom into a space where creativity, empathy, and purpose came together in a powerful way. Through Genius Hour, students designed and created handmade felt monsters with a very special audience in mind—our kindergarteners.\r\n\r\nThis project went far beyond crafting. Students engaged in the full design process: brainstorming ideas, sketching plans, problem-solving as they sewed and assembled their creations, and revising their work to ensure each monster was both durable and lovable. Along the way, they built perseverance, fine motor skills, and confidence in their ability to bring an idea to life.\r\n\r\nWhat made this experience truly meaningful was the connection between grade levels. Knowing their creations would be gifted to younger students gave our learners a strong sense of purpose. They thought carefully about colors, textures, and personalities that would comfort and delight a kindergartener. When the monsters were finally delivered, the joy was immediate and mutual—kindergarten students gained a special handmade friend, and our creators experienced the pride of giving something meaningful to others.\r\n\r\nYour generosity didn't just fund materials—it fostered creativity, collaboration, and compassion. It empowered students to see themselves as makers and contributors to their school community. For many students, this was the first time they had been given a brand-new book of their own—something they could take pride in, annotate, revisit, and truly claim as theirs. The excitement was unmistakable; students hugged their copies, flipped through the pages right away, and began talking about the characters before we even started reading together. Having a shared text allowed us to build a sense of connection across grade levels, creating a reading experience that felt both personal and collective.\r\n\r\nAcademically, the project elevated engagement in reading in noticeable ways. Teachers reported increased participation and deeper comprehension as students made connections, marked important moments, and asked thoughtful questions. The accessibility of having the text in every child's hands helped ensure that all students—regardless of background or reading ability—could fully participate. It leveled the playing field and promoted meaningful literacy growth.\r\n\r\nPerhaps the most powerful impact was the sense of community that emerged. Students across three grade levels bonded over the same story, sharing predictions, favorite scenes, and emotional reactions. The project sparked conversations in hallways, at lunch tables, and even at recess. It reminded students that reading can be both joyful and communal, and it encouraged many reluctant readers to rediscover their curiosity.
