The new rug, lights, and side table instantly changed the feel of the space, students now describe the library as \"cozy,\" \"calm,\" and \"a place you actually want to read.\" Just as importantly, the graphic novels you helped provide have completely taken off. They are by far the most popular books in the library, and students have been devouring them during free reading time, lunch, and after school.\r\n\r\nThe impact on learning has been immediate. Students who once struggled to find books that felt approachable are now reading more often and with greater confidence. The graphic novels support comprehension, vocabulary, and stamina, especially for developing readers and English learners, while still offering engaging stories students genuinely care about. It's incredibly rewarding to see students recommend books to each other, reread favorites, and proudly talk about what they're reading.\r\n\r\nBeyond reading, this project has empowered students as leaders. They are actively meeting with our interior designer, selecting wall colors, planning layouts, and creating student-made posters to reflect our school's identity. They aren't just improving a space, they're learning how to collaborate, make decisions, and serve their community in a meaningful way. Because of you, our library is becoming a welcoming hub for learning and connection, and our students are seeing firsthand how their leadership can create lasting, positive change. Thank you for helping make this vision a reality.","fullyFundedDate":1764649182438,"projectUrl":"project/student-led-library-renovation/9783564/","projectTitle":"Student-led Library Renovation!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Piper","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4961905_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1520526938618","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/t-piper"},{"teacherId":4961905,"projectId":9695350,"letterContent":"Because of your generosity, our middle school robotics program has truly come to life. From the moment students opened the new SPIKE Prime robot and LEGO expansion pack, the room filled with excitement, curiosity, and a lot of ideas. Students immediately began building, testing, rebuilding, and problem-solving together. These resources allowed us to move from basic practice to real-world engineering, designing attachments, writing and revising code, and learning how small changes can make a big difference in performance.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting moments came recently at our regional FIRST LEGO League competition. Using the robot you helped provide, students built and developed code to complete missions on the competition table, working under a 2.5-minute time limit to earn as many points as possible. They collaborated under pressure, debugged code on the spot, and supported one another like a true team. Their hard work paid off, both of our teams earned awards, taking home the Champion Finalist Award and the Innovation Finalist Award. Watching students who once doubted themselves celebrate their success was incredibly powerful.\r\n\r\nNext, students are refining their designs and reflecting on what worked, what didn't, and how they can improve for future competitions. We are diving deeper into advanced programming concepts, improving consistency and precision, and continuing to brainstorm innovative solutions to real-world problems. For many of my students, especially those who don't participate in sports, this robotics team is their place to belong. Because of you, they are building confidence, teamwork, and skills that will stay with them far beyond the competition table. These new graphic novels have already made a huge impact on my students, especially our emerging and developing readers.\r\n\r\nThe books you provided, like the Amulet series, The Baby-sitters Club Graphix, Magic Tree House Graphic Novels, Mexikid, Frizzy, Ghosts, Monster, The Librarian of Auschwitz, and Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, do so much more than tell great stories. They help students build real reading skills in an accessible way. Students practice comprehension by combining text and illustrations, learn new vocabulary through visual context, and strengthen skills like sequencing, summarizing, and making inferences. For our English language learners, the pictures are powerful supports that help them understand complex ideas and feel successful with grade-level content.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom now looks lively and collaborative. Students choose books that genuinely interest them, read independently or with partners, and eagerly stop to talk about what's happening in the story. You'll see students flipping back to reread a page, pointing out an illustration that helped something \"click,\" or recommending Amulet or Baby-sitters Club to a friend. Reading has become something they look forward to instead of something they avoid.\r\n\r\nSome of the biggest smiles come from students who used to say they didn't like reading at all. One student new to English proudly finished Mexikid and shared the story with a classmate using both words and pictures. Another student who struggled to stay focused is completely absorbed in Amulet, reading multiple books in the series back-to-back. These moments build confidence, and that confidence carries into every part of their learning.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, our library is now a place where students feel excited, capable, and empowered as readers. Your support didn't just add books to our shelves, it helped our students see themselves as readers and leaders. Your donation has made a tremendous impact on our students and their love of reading. The new materials have helped us reach a wide range of reading abilities and interests. For our English Language Learners, the Survived graphic novels have been a perfect fi, they make complex stories more accessible and engaging. The addition of manga titles has been especially exciting, since our school library had very few before. These have sparked new enthusiasm among reluctant readers who now eagerly pick up a book during silent reading time. For our advanced readers, books like Red Rising have provided new challenges and deeper opportunities for analysis and discussion.\r\n\r\nEvery student in our program participates in a daily silent reading class where they select books of their choice and take AR comprehension tests. Each student's reading goal is tailored to their individual ability level, helping them stretch and grow as readers. Thanks to your donation, we can now offer a wider selection that supports every student, whether they are just beginning their reading journey or ready to tackle complex literature.\r\n\r\nBeyond the books, the checkers game you helped fund has been a huge hit! Every morning before school, students come into my room to play. It's wonderful to see them interacting face-to-face instead of sitting on their phones. The game has helped build friendships, communication skills, and a sense of community in our classroom.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has truly enriched our reading program and created new opportunities for connection and learning.
