We truly appreciate your support. We had a Human Body Party in our first grade classroom. Students were able to put on a doctor coat, stethoscope, glasses and masks to pretend they were doctors while playing the fun game of Operation!\r\n\r\nStudents wrote about the human body systems we learned about throughout our unit (muscular, skeletal, digestive, circulatory, and nervous), stating something they learned about. Their writing was put together to create a body book they shared with their grown-ups. The models of the human heart and human body were especially helpful. This allowed students to have a visual demonstrating how the systems look and work together in the body. \r\n\r\nAt the beginning of the day, students helped make our healthy snack of the day–noodle and vegetable soup! We learned about the importance of eating healthy foods and nourishing our bodies. The felt food plate was a hands-on way for students to identify nutritious foods to help them grow. \r\n\r\nThe organ apron was a huge hit! Kids were able to place the organs in the correct places, then wear it. It was really fun to see how long the small intestine can really be! Students were able to play with the magnetic doll showing the different body systems, too. The visual, hands-on materials allowed students to really immerse themselves in the content we had been learning. \r\n\r\nYour impact provided students an engaging opportunity to learn more about the fascinating human body. Perhaps one day, some of my students will become doctors, nurses and other medical professionals.","fullyFundedDate":1743104193310,"projectUrl":"project/paging-future-doctors/9098836/","projectTitle":"Paging Future Doctors!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wellsandt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9786356_orig.png?crop=679,679,x0,y81&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1738896012624","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9786356"},{"teacherId":9786356,"projectId":9097365,"letterContent":"Your generosity has made a difference in our first grade classroom! We had \"Dino Day\" in our first grade classroom. Students dressed using clothing or accessories that resembled paleontologists. The room had multiple stations for students to explore, create and learn.\r\n\r\nStudents enjoyed creating their own fossils using plastic insects and a special dough while wearing the fun paleontologist costumes ordered through the project. The fossils were sent home so students could continue to create or let them dry. \r\n\r\nTo better understand the Earth's layers, students used the foam model of the Earth. They practiced labeling the layers on their own paper. We then enjoyed a layered treat of colored pudding in a cup! There was a station with sand and the small dinosaur skeletons to excavate using small shovels and brushes. \r\n\r\nAnother fun activity was exploring the various types of rocks and minerals in the kit purchased through the project. Using magnifying glasses, students matched the type of rock/mineral to the chart provided in the kit. Books about fossils, rocks and minerals were used for the students to learn more. \r\n\r\nYour impact provided students an engaging opportunity to learn about the wonderful Earth we live on. We truly appreciate your support. Students enjoyed learning about outer space and the solar system. Your kindness provided students with a hands-on culminating experience! We had \"Space Day\" in our first grade classroom. Students dressed using clothing or accessories that were related to space–Nasa t-shirts, clothing with stars, star stickers, aluminum foil headbands, etc. The room was decorated with a starry background, a rocket ship tent, and a star projector. \r\n\r\nStudents enjoyed creating their own planet using paint and styrofoam balls. We had learned about the planets in our solar system, so students were able to paint the one they liked the most. They each wrote about which planet they would like to visit and gave details about why they chose that planet. The motorized solar system model was a big hit with the kids! It was so helpful for them to have a visual model demonstrating what the solar system looks like and how the planets revolve around the sun. \r\n\r\nTo better understand the Earth's revolution around the sun, as well as its own rotation, students created an Earth and sun out of playdough. Using an aluminum pie plate, they were able to move the plate so the model Earth would rotate and revolve around the sun (which was stationary in the middle of the plate). This was a fun activity students were able to take home to model for their grown-ups. \r\n\r\nYour impact provided students an engaging opportunity to learn about the great big universe we live in.
