Your monetary support extends beyond the classroom. It also reflects your belief in educators and students, and that alone is cause for the gratitude we have for you. Our population of students is 25% Hispanic, many of which speak Spanish, among other languages like Mam and Mixteco. Often times, these students do not see books that reflect who they are and the experiences they have in their day to day. The Multilingual classes also tend to have classrooms that use leftover furniture that doesn't match or are wrong sizes. With this project, we were able to fill our classroom with new chairs, chair bands that have helped students stay focused while still able to move and wiggle as needed, bilingual books, sensory items, and other supplies that has created a classroom that every child is excited to enter and learn in.\r\n \r\nOne of the first things that students gravitated towards were the books, \"It's in Spanish! Look teacher, I know these words!\" one child exclaimed in excitement. Every day when they get 10 minutes to do an activity of their choice like drawing, most students choose to go to the reading area to read the new books that were bought from this project. \r\n\r\nThe chairs and chair bands has also created a calming classroom environment. I often see students resting their feet on the bands to wiggle their legs when they are concentrating. It is a quiet way that allows students the movement they need while also continuing the work and learning in the class. The chairs and desks are their size, so we no longer have mismatched and wrong sized furniture that students complain about either, which has been a relief to no longer hear about! \r\n\r\nWhen everything arrived, and I presented this all as supplied by donors like you the kids were surprised and thankful. They wanted to share this message to you all \r\n\"Thank you sooooo much! We LOVE everything! You are like a Puddle Jumper, you are respectful and kind!\" \r\nOur school mascot is a Puddle Jumper and every morning we start the day by saying \"We are respectful, we are responsible, we are safe, we are PUDDLE JUMPERS\" so that is a high honor compliment from our kindergarten and first graders. :)\r\n\r\nThanks again for your support towards Multilingualism is a Superpower. Already we have used our superpowers to empower these kids who will one day lead the future!","fullyFundedDate":1761952985541,"projectUrl":"project/multilingualism-is-a-superpower/9627321/","projectTitle":"Multilingualism is a Superpower","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Velasquez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10191463_orig.jpg?crop=288,288,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755643224540","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10191463"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_35499","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":423,"numTeachers":22,"percentFrplEligible":91,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":45,"percentIndigenous":4,"percentLatinx":39,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"19.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":50.0,"schoolId":35499,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Forks Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Forks Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/quillayute-valley-school-district-402/forks-elementary-school/35499"}
