These resources allow us to practice responsible phone use in a supportive environment where students can build confidence and learn at their own pace.\r\n\r\nOur students have been excited to see their phones become part of their learning rather than something they are simply asked to put away. We are working on skills like using maps to navigate our community, looking up bus routes, using calculators while shopping, and understanding what personal information is safe to share online. Having a designated charging and storage station also helps students practice responsibility, organization, and following routines. These are skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, we will be taking these lessons beyond our classroom walls. Students will practice using their devices during community outings, shopping trips, and public transportation training. One of my favorite parts has been watching students realize that gardening is not just an activity for class—it involves routines, problem-solving, patience, and taking care of something over time.\r\n\r\nThe students were very excited when they first saw the new materials. New supplies always create a little buzz in our classroom, and they were eager to look through everything and figure out what each item was for. Having tools and materials that are actually designed for the work we are doing makes the experience feel more authentic and gives students more opportunities to participate independently.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building gardening into our regular classroom routine. Students will help monitor plant growth, water and weed as needed, maintain the garden area, and eventually harvest what we grow. We also hope to connect our gardening work with other parts of our transition program, including cooking, nutrition, household responsibilities, and learning how to care for tools and supplies.
