By using Costa's Levels of Questioning, students are learning how to move from basic recall questions to higher-level thinking and meaningful discussions with their partners.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has become much more collaborative and student-driven. During partner reading, students sit together with sticky notes, discussion stems, and their books open as they pause to ask each other questions and share their thinking. It is exciting to hear students challenge one another's ideas respectfully, explain their reasoning, and build confidence as readers and thinkers. The conversations happening around the room are thoughtful, engaging, and full of academic language.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were previously hesitant to participate during whole-group discussions have especially flourished during partner reading time. They independently choose tools that meet their needs—whether that's using noise-canceling headphones and soft lighting to decompress, a weighted lap pad or sensory roller to calm their bodies, or cold packs and electrolyte drinks to address headaches and stomachaches. One especially meaningful moment came when a student who frequently struggled with sensory overload was able to use the headphones and breathing cards, regulate within minutes, and return to class without needing to go home. That moment reflected exactly what this project was designed to do.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their reactions were immediate and heartfelt. Many were excited and curious, especially about the sensory tools and calming items. Several students expressed gratitude right away, saying things like \"This feels relaxing\" and \"I can actually calm down here.\" Others were especially drawn to the visual supports, like the breathing exercises and self-care charts, and began practicing them right away. The space quickly became one where students feel safe and respected, and they take pride in using the tools appropriately. It has also sparked conversations about health, emotions, and self-care in a way that feels empowering rather than reactive.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, these materials are becoming part of a larger focus on student wellness and independence.
