We will be using these materials to finish up our year as well as support our musicians next year. I had a group of 4th graders unbox the supplies to get them excited- and they were! We talked about what each bead represented and then we looked at some of the 5th graders bead necklaces to see how many kids had gotten this year. You could feel the motivation and desire to begin the ukulele program today :) \r\n\r\nThere are 30 songs that they have the opportunity to play but we were only able to get through 10 this year. Next year our 5th graders will start ukuleles earlier so they will have more time to experience the instrument and everything it has to offer a young musician. Because of all the bead supplies that were donated we will have a chance to dive deeper into the curriculum. Students who want more challenging songs will have a chance test their musical knowledge and strumming skills. \r\n\r\nWith your support we are off to a great start with building our Ukulele foundations. It is a grand adventure and we are deeply grateful for your donation. There are so many parts to building this program, and you have helped make it that much easier to access this instrument. We were unable to purchase tuners due to supply issues, so we pivoted and bought ukulele shoulder straps instead. This was an excellent purchase since students get tired of holding their ukuleles in their hands, and now they have more stamina and excitement for learning new songs. \r\n Our full ukulele program will begin in January, and kids are chomping at the bit to get started. Many students have already expressed their excitement to begin the unit and have dozens of song suggestions.
