Something that seems so silly (a bean bag chair in a classroom, for example) can make the biggest difference in the lives of my teenagers. I feel like the most fortunate of teachers to have people like you see that little glimmer of hope and contribute a sense of comfort to my room.\r\n\r\nWhen the kids walked in and saw our bean bag chairs had multiplied, the cheers could be heard around the school. It was impeccable timing, too. My AP Seminar students were starting The Hunger Games, our anchor text for the year. They would race into class, grab a blanket, a bean bag chair, a pillow, and settle in to read. AP Seminar is for 10th graders, so I was lucky enough to have had many of them last year. It was such a treat getting to have kids coming up to me after we finished the novel letting me know they were going to read the next one. Some had already checked out Catching Fire from the library! Several students shared with me that it has been their favorite part of the year so far. \r\n\r\nWe're wrapping up the first trimester and classes are about to change. There is a group of 9th graders who became close in my 5th period. They started getting emotional realizing their days of bean bag time were coming to an end. \r\n\r\nBeing their teacher is such a gift and honor. Thank you for helping me create the environment they look forward to coming to.","fullyFundedDate":1756387054455,"projectUrl":"project/a-safe-place-to-land/9459740/","projectTitle":"A Safe Place to Land","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Selmer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10074502_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752331436323","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-selmer"},{"teacherId":9745622,"projectId":8771867,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our class. Your support has made a significant impact on my students. Every student who needed it now has notebooks for taking notes, folders to store their work, and rulers and pencils that will carry them through the year.\r\n\r\nIn addition to these essential supplies, we also now have a wonderful assortment of snacks and treats. These have already brought so much joy to the students, offering them comfort whenever they miss a meal or as a reward for their hard work. To ensure our supplies last as long as possible, we have linked them to a participation-reward system in our class. Students earn tickets for active participation, completing assignments, and maintaining perfect attendance each week. Now they can trades these tickets for snacks or other treats you donated, with the class even voting on the value of each item. This has had a remarkable effect on student engagement, encouraging both increased participation and a more positive, motivated atmosphere in our math class.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity. We are truly grateful for your support, which continues to make a lasting difference in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1729529710300,"projectUrl":"project/caring-beyond-the-content/8771867/","projectTitle":"Caring Beyond the Content","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Parkin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9745622"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_48914","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1790,"numTeachers":69,"percentFrplEligible":60,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":13,"percentWhite":28,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"25.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":48914,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Spanaway Lake High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Spanaway Lake High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/bethel-school-district-403/spanaway-lake-high-school/48914"}
