Because it was a brand new piece of sensory equipment, I took time to introduce it carefully, modeling how it worked, demonstrating how to use it safely, and gently coaxing the children to give it a try. The first time one student went through, the smile that spread across his face was absolutely priceless. Another student quickly discovered how much he loved the deep pressure input and chose to roll back and forth several times instead of going straight through. These small, joyful moments speak volumes about how meaningful this resource is for our students.\r\n\r\nIn our structured autism classroom, sensory tools like the steam roller are essential supports, not extras. They help students regulate their bodies and emotions, making it possible for them to engage, focus, and learn. Students have daily access to our sensory room after lunch, and they can also request sensory breaks during the day whenever they need them. The steam roller has quickly become a favorite choice during these breaks, often the first tool they ask for, because it helps them feel calm, grounded, and ready to return to their work.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has created more than just a new learning tool. It has opened up opportunities for confidence, independence, and joy. Each time a student climbs into the steam roller, we see them taking an active step toward understanding and supporting their own needs. Thank you for making this possible. You have truly made a difference in the lives of our students, and we are deeply grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1756938752280,"projectUrl":"project/an-au-some-steam-roller/9670175/","projectTitle":"An Au-some Steam Roller","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Krissy Kim","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10166243_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754881524572","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/krissykim"},{"teacherId":10166243,"projectId":9573486,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our project, Supports for AU-some Students! Because of your generosity, my K–2 structured autism students now have new tools that make learning, self-regulation, and social development both fun and meaningful.\r\n\r\nIn our sensory room, the vibration plate, Step N Stilts, wobble board, wiggle seats, playgough tools, and water play materials are already giving students safe outlets for movement and sensory input. These materials help children regulate their bodies, build balance and coordination, and return to the classroom ready to learn.\r\n\r\nDuring Pivotal Response Training, the new chunky bead set, wooden stacking blocks, screwdriver board, counting peg board, tangram jigsaw, wooden letter board, self-correcting alphabet puzzles, and color-matching puzzles are helping students strengthen fine motor skills, problem-solving, and early literacy and math abilities. These hands-on tools keep students engaged and motivated while building independence and confidence.\r\n\r\nFor Discrete Trial Training, we now have exciting high-value reinforcers like the light-up spinning wand, water snakes, and arm spinner toy. These motivating items make practice sessions fun and rewarding, encouraging students to participate and persist with challenging tasks.\r\n\r\nFinally, the hourglass timers are making a big difference in supporting turn-taking and teaching students how to track break times. These visual supports help children better understand routines, build patience, and practice important social skills.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our classroom and sensory spaces are filled with opportunities for growth, joy, and success.
