They immediately wanted to build the water table & take it outside & put the bubbles into it! It was a HOT day so it was a perfect start to our adventures with all of the wonderful donations.\r\nMy students wanted to know where we got these new toys & I explained to them that some people read about our awesome classroom & wanted to give us a box of joy that will help us become better friends. \r\nProbably the biggest hit of the items is the Egg Toss Game! Because it doesn't take a lot of space, we can use this inside on rainy days. It has become the most requested reward after working hard on academics. \r\nThank you so much for bringing my class together to do fun activities both inside & out! The students loved the area. when they walked into the room and saw the area for the first time, they didn't even want to read they just wanted to sit on the beanbag, rub their hands on the carpet and take a nap in the chair.\r\n\r\nWe had a classroom rule to sit in the corner you had to take your shoes off to keep the carpet clean. They all thought that was a great rule and followed it and even helped hold each other accountable for the rule. \r\n\r\nThe the reading corner was initially to be used during reading time however, it was used much more than that. Whenever students would finish with work earlier, they would take a book and go to the corner. This was also used as a calming space when a student needed time away. They would go take their shoes off and sit on the beanbag and listen to music or lay on the carpet and just regroup. \r\n\r\nAll students increased their reading grade levels and learned to enjoy reading.Thank you again for all your help to make this reading corner.","fullyFundedDate":1723654508269,"projectUrl":"project/reading-corner-for-special-education-cla/8639920/","projectTitle":"Reading Corner For Special Education Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fuller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9290135"},{"teacherId":9782942,"projectId":8984304,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous support of our classroom project! Your contributions have made a significant difference in the lives of my students, who all face intellectual and social disabilities but are eager to learn and engage. Recently, we implemented visual schedules with magnets displayed in our common area, which has empowered my students to independently answer questions like, \"What time do I have recess?\" This small change has fostered greater self-sufficiency and confidence among them.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, their reactions were priceless. They were genuinely excited to play with the 260 Piece STEM Learning Toys Kids Construction Engineering Kit, and I loved celebrating their accomplishments with stamps featuring our mascot, a Lion. They love playing with the state cards & learning about the state facts. The laminating sheets you provided have also been invaluable, allowing us to reuse resources and minimize paper waste. As we continue our current science and geography lessons, I am eager to explore more engaging ways to teach these subjects that cater to their unique needs. Your support has made this learning journey possible, and I can't wait to share more successes with you in the future!","fullyFundedDate":1739375881755,"projectUrl":"project/reaching-for-independence/8984304/","projectTitle":"Reaching for Independence!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Krista Wade","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9782942_orig.jpg?crop=2229,2229,x0,y74&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756506254878","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9782942"},{"teacherId":9782942,"projectId":8837389,"letterContent":"My students & I are profoundly grateful for your generosity in supporting our classroom with items for our classroom! \r\nMy students are enjoying & benefitting from your donations! Before the arrival of the items, my students were struggling managing their emotions. We had one student who was hitting staff on average 13x an hour. My staff & I were struggling to find what we could do to support this, mostly nonverbal, student so that he felt like his needs were being met. Although nothing is perfect, we have found that the floor tiles, sensory foam as well as the sensory bottles have helped him work through some of his frustrations. He uses the floor tiles all day, under his feet, while he does his academic work. He enjoys changing up the location of each tile so that is is arranged in his preferred combination. He & my other non-verbal students are benefitting from the now organized collection of PECs visuals to help them & staff communicate easier with one another. We now can quickly (so important!) grab a PEC visual to help explain schedules as well as choices. This has given my students a voice!\r\nMy staff & I were talking about how lucky we feel that we have had the support of donors to give us so many important items to help our students feel calmer & ready to learn!","fullyFundedDate":1733277665091,"projectUrl":"project/safe-independent-happy-special-ed-sen/8837389/","projectTitle":"Safe, Independent & Happy Special Ed Sensory Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Krista Wade","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9782942_orig.jpg?crop=2229,2229,x0,y74&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756506254878","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9782942"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_35508","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":752,"numTeachers":41,"percentFrplEligible":54,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":66,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":18,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"18.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.5,"schoolId":35508,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Laurin Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Laurin Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/battle-ground-school-district-119/laurin-middle-school/35508"}
