However I knew it was needed due to an increase in behavior concerns throughout the building. When I present the journals to the students, we talked a lot about being authors of their lives and how journaling/ writing their thoughts can help calm the noise in their mind, share their heart when no one is available, or just to doodle because doodling is fun. \r\n\r\nWe got to work decorating the front covers of their journals. I thought customizing them would create more ownership. They were very excited about that. Our first day of writing, we let them share about their day in written or illustrated form. Every week we placed the journals on the table as a station and watched.. Oddly enough, the journal table was a hotspot...and we were worried...lol. Some children willing shared journal entries with us which opened the doors of communication wider, empathy increased, and stronger/new friendships developed. \r\n\r\nI want to Thank You again for bringing mental stability to our space and increasing empathy in our hearts. Creating safe spaces for our students to unwind and talk through somethings was the goal and together WE DID IT.","fullyFundedDate":1738089035102,"projectUrl":"project/one-pencil-one-book-many-thoughts/9051363/","projectTitle":"One Pencil, One Book, Many Thoughts","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fernandez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9407487"},{"teacherId":9916472,"projectId":9099045,"letterContent":"I want to extend my deepest gratitude for your generous support in funding a printer for our classroom. Thanks to you, we now have an incredibly useful tool that's already making a difference in our daily learning.\r\n\r\nHaving a classroom printer has opened up so many new possibilities for my students. We're now able to print differentiated worksheets, engaging graphic organizers, student writing pieces, and even project-based learning materials right when we need them. It has made our lessons more interactive, efficient, and responsive to the students' individual needs.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students the most is seeing their own work printed out—especially their writing pieces. There's something magical about holding a copy of their story or poem in their hands. One of my students, who used to be shy about participating, is now proudly sharing her printed work with classmates. It's been an incredible confidence boost for her!\r\n\r\nThis printer has also helped us with creating visual aids for our EL curriculum lessons and anchor charts for classroom discussions. These printed materials are not only functional but also visually engaging, which has made comprehension and participation much easier for many students.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our classroom and in our students. I want to sincerely thank you for your generous donation of Ozobots to our elementary library. Your contribution is already making a huge impact on our students, and I'm excited to share how these amazing robots are helping enhance their learning experience.\r\n\r\nMany of our students use technology at home, but having the Ozobots in the library has allowed them to take their digital skills to a whole new level. The bots are helping them develop foundational coding and problem-solving skills in a hands-on and engaging way. As the students program the Ozobots to follow paths they've created, they're learning the basics of algorithms and sequencing, which are vital skills for their future. It's amazing to see them explore technology in such an interactive way!\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for the students is the ability to see their coding come to life. As they draw color-coded paths or input specific commands, they watch the Ozobots respond in real time. It's a thrill for them to see something they've designed move and react. One of the most fun moments was when a group of students collaborated to create a challenging course for the Ozobots, trying to see who could get their bot to complete the course in the shortest time. The excitement was contagious!\r\n\r\nThere are definitely a few students who have really taken to the technology, especially those who might not have been as confident in other subjects. One student, in particular, who is usually a bit shy in group activities, has completely flourished when working with the Ozobots. They've become the \"tech expert\" in their group, confidently explaining to others how to program the bots and sharing their discoveries. It's been wonderful to watch them gain confidence and develop a passion for technology.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for your incredibly generous gift. The Ozobots are not only sparking curiosity and creativity in our library, but they are also empowering our students to embrace technology and coding in a way that will benefit them for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1739546600112,"projectUrl":"project/integrating-coding-with-fun/8994672/","projectTitle":"Integrating coding with fun!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Saletto","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2381109"},{"teacherId":2381109,"projectId":9001849,"letterContent":"I hope this message finds you well! I wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank you for your generous donation of colored pencils, crayons, and cleaning supplies. Your thoughtful contribution has truly made a difference in our classroom and has sparked so much creativity and excitement among my students.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials, their faces lit up with joy! They were absolutely thrilled to have fresh supplies to use in their projects. One of our favorite moments was during a recent art project where they were tasked with creating \"All About Me\" posters. With the vibrant colors at their disposal, they poured their hearts into their artwork, bringing their unique personalities to life. The joy in their expressions as they added their final touches with the colored pencils and crayons was priceless. It was a moment of pure creativity and pride.\r\n\r\nThe cleaning supplies have also been invaluable, especially as we've been doing more hands-on activities. It's so great to have the extra supplies on hand to keep our space clean and organized, ensuring that the students can focus on learning without distractions.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're diving into a new unit on nature and the environment. The students will be working on a collaborative project where they'll create a large mural showcasing local wildlife and ecosystems. The colored pencils and crayons will play a huge role in bringing this project to life, and I can already see the excitement building among the students as they prepare to start.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for your support. These texts provide opportunities for students to develop their comprehension skills by discussing character traits, story structure, and themes. They also encourage students to make predictions, analyze illustrations, and engage in discussions about the author's writing style and humor. These books help young readers connect with the material through relatable characters and engaging stories, building their literacy skills while fostering a love for reading.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading looks like an interactive, community-based experience. Students gather in small groups to read aloud, discuss the books, and even act out scenes or retell the stories. The humorous and imaginative nature of these authors' works makes for lively discussions, where students express their ideas and share their favorite parts of the story. Some students, particularly those who enjoy quirky characters and humor, have been especially enthusiastic about these new books. They love the funny situations and creative illustrations, and they eagerly dive into the next book in the series, often recommending them to friends and sharing insights with the class. The dividers helped create a calm and organized atmosphere, where each student could focus on their own work.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the next steps for students involve using the dividers not just during formal assessments, but also for activities like independent work or quiet reading time. By incorporating these dividers into our daily routine, students can have a dedicated space to concentrate on tasks without interruptions, helping them build a stronger sense of responsibility and focus. This will also support students who might need extra time or a quiet environment to complete assignments, ensuring every child feels confident and empowered to do their best.","fullyFundedDate":1735581015070,"projectUrl":"project/privacy-for-testing/8999677/","projectTitle":"Privacy for Testing","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Saletto","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2381109"},{"teacherId":2381109,"projectId":8837381,"letterContent":"The new nonfiction books in our library have introduced a range of valuable skills and lessons. If you know anything about building with Lego Bricks, you know there's never enough. And when you think they've master sharing you realize that the last red brick is now a place of contention...lol \r\n\r\nSo when I told the students we were getting more Lego Bricks they thought they had already arrive and that I was hiding them in the building. Every time they saw the Amazon truck they thought today was the day..lol I had to explain that we had to wait for them to come in the mail. I chose a few students to open the boxes with me which was pretty fun. \r\n\r\nBecause we have several students who are learning to process big emotions, I've used the smaller bricks as a calm down resource. With the support of our Behavior Assistant, they decompress, talk about their day, and think of ways to better process their emotions. This is a better alternative to thinking laps and has proven to help with promoting self-awareness. \r\n\r\nThe larger bricks came with building guide cards, which are Amazing! These bricks are a great resource for teaching perseverance, since most of our students are use to saying \"I don't know how to do this\" or \"I don't know\" without trying. I often have to remind them, \"that they are suppose to get things wrong so they can learn how to get them right.\" Learning how to figure out what pictures are showing us, following directions, and asking for help after trying every resource available is helping to strengthen that learning muscle. \r\n\r\nWe could not have had this much successful fun without your generosity. It was heartwarming to see their excitement as they picked out warm accessories, knowing they would be comfortable on their way to and from school. \r\n\r\nBeyond the winter months, the personal hygiene items continue to make a lasting impact in our classroom. Many of my students use Vaseline daily to keep their skin from becoming dry and irritated, especially during the colder seasons. Additionally, having toothpaste, deodorant, and other hygiene essentials available has helped students who may not have time to get ready in the morning or who may not have access to these items at home. This small but significant support allows them to feel more confident and comfortable throughout the school day. \r\n\r\nBecause of these donations, my students not only received physical warmth but also a sense of dignity and care.
