I was so excited for the class set of whiteboards (and they are also clipboards--came in handy!). My students draw diagrams and graphs in our small groups so that I don't have to keep providing paper all the time. It's so much easier and more eco-friendly in a way! I do a lot more gallery walks where students are getting to move around in and out of the classroom, having a more interactive learning experience. My artists are loving the construction paper, scissors, glues, and colored pencils. I do a lot of arts and craft projects which high schoolers surprisingly love (they say it makes them feel like a little kid again). Recently, my students created a seed with construction paper to show seed germination from embryo to \"root and shoot\" where they made a paper mechanism that \"grows\" the radicle and plumule of a seed. Another supply that is loved in my classroom is the rolling desk. It was originally meant for me, but my students have been using it as a flexible seating option. They sit next to my desk in a high chair to chat with me while they're doing their independent work, and it's been a nice addition to all of my classes. \r\n\r\nWhen the supplies arrived to the school, students were so excited to even volunteer to help me carry them three flights of stairs. They were particularly drawn to the colored pencils, as those colors have more range than the ones I had previously provided. The clipboard whiteboards are used every day, and they said that it was probably the most useful thing in those boxes because we get up and walk around a lot, and writing on the wall was making their papers crumbled and torn up.\r\n\r\nIn my biology class, we are now learning prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Their next project is to create a structure of a prokaryotic or eukaryotic cell with construction paper, scissors (the class set came in handy! my class set I had bought before has only 6 left), glue, and the colored pencils. Since my ecology class is about to wrap up our plant unit, and we are moving on to animals, we are going to be learning about camouflaging. Students will cut out and color butterflies that camouflage into the walls of my room.\r\n\r\nIf you want to keep updated in what goes on in my classroom, my classroom instagram page is @caiteaches, and I would love for you to stay tuned for what's to come! (I've recently started documenting students becoming plant parents/families)!","fullyFundedDate":1763827254288,"projectUrl":"project/equipping-future-scientists-help-a-firs/9512943/","projectTitle":"Equipping Future Scientists--Help a First-year Biology Teacher!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Harris","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10099503_orig.png?crop=312,312,x8,y143&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753826213285","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10099503"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_34913","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1009,"numTeachers":79,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":88,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":47.8,"schoolId":34913,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about I.C.
