When the boxes arrived, my students were excited just to know something \"for our class\" had come in. As we unpacked the math manipulatives, they immediately started picking things up, asking what they were for, and making guesses about how we'd use them. We use the place value boards and base-ten blocks during small-group math, and it makes a noticeable difference. Students who usually hesitate were more willing to try because they could physically build the numbers and check their thinking.\r\n\r\nThe sensory tools have also been helpful in meaningful ways. A few students who struggle to sit for whole-group lessons will now quietly reach for a fidget instead of getting up and wandering, which has helped them stay with the class longer. The organizers and carts have made our space feel less chaotic. We finally have a designated spot for materials, which has made transitions smoother.\r\n\r\nWe're currently working on a math unit that involves regrouping and multi-step problems, and the manipulatives are supporting students as they practice breaking numbers apart and putting them back together. Having these math tools available every day has helped them bridge the gap between the abstract and concrete. Before this project, we had limited materials to support students at different levels. Now, I can provide targeted practice based on each student's needs.
