Their faces lit up with excitement! Our first project or activity using these materials took place during our Mentor training meetings, where the older Pals learn more about how to be a role model. These meetings help prepare them for their responsibility as a peer mentor to a younger student, thus getting to do a very engaging activity involving teamwork, creativity, and problem solving skills was very important! \r\n Students were challenged to create items on an \"I can build ____\" card which were given out to groups at random. They had to work together to create different things like a tree, bike, or airplane using the materials (legos). They were VERY successful, but more importantly, they were inspired. I had so many students share positive feedback about the activity but also share their ideas for activities in the future! They had amazing suggestions on how to utilize these materials to the fullest while connecting with their younger pal or mentee. \r\n All of our students were amazed that these building kits and obstacle course materials are for OUR program! They expressed feeling lucky, happy, and loved by the contribution. Seeing our students happy is always a wonderful thing, but seeing them engaged in collaborating using such creative problem solving skills and feeling inspired by the challenge? That's something I cannot thank you enough for.","fullyFundedDate":1746785645777,"projectUrl":"project/pals-peer-mentoring-program-activities/9218559/","projectTitle":"PALS Peer Mentoring Program Activities","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hampton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9987838_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743344682939","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9987838"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_47239","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":403,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":84,"percentAsian":13,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":25,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":49,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":55.6,"schoolId":47239,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Meadowland Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Meadowland Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/loudoun-county-public-schools/meadowland-elementary-school/47239"}
