They will provide significant advantages for our students in the coming years to support the current program but also to allow us to do things that we haven't been able to do before.\r\n\r\nOn the band and marching band fronts, as those activities have evolved from simple playing music into a full-fledged theatrical event in most cases, the computer will give us two opportunities that we didn't have before. First, it will allow us to create and use sound effects as part of our performances. Having a sound effect with a marching band show is about as normal as having a trumpet in the band, so having the ability to add this piece to our show to enhance the overall effect of the performance. This year's show will be able to utilize a narration voiceover to clarify what is going on and to help us tell our story. Second, as composers have evolved in recent years, the use of digital instruments (keyboards and sound patches) has increased, and this will open up more music available to our students since we will finally have access to those instruments.\r\n\r\nOn the film front, it is difficult to describe the impact this will have on the program, because it will basically overhaul completely how students' interface with the film world, most especially on the editing end, but really through the whole process. Prior to this donation, students could only interface with editing through a program called WeVideo, which is a virtual editor where everything is hosted by an off-site server. Editing is slow, and very limited in what the students Chromebooks can accomplish within this editor. We will now be able to go in depth on concepts such as layering video elements, special and visual effects, titling and other text-based information items for a film, color grading, labeling their film clips (instead of the generic file names) in the editing software, they'll get exposure to both DaVinci Resolve for many color and balance elements of editing, but also to Adobe Premiere for final editing, which is how most films are edited and assembled in the film industry. Students will also have access to Final Cut Pro, which isn't used as much in the film industry, it still has niche places that it is used, and we will be able to expose students to that software as well. In short, it will give students the opportunity to understand how the workflow really is executed, and they will have the software to do the work and create the film that they envision in their head, and will no longer be limited by what the software will allow.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your support of our program.
