This has given everyone more hands-on learning opportunities and made our drum circles even more engaging.\r\n\r\nAlready, my students are using the tubano to practice playing as an ensemble, listening to one another, and keeping steady rhythms. It has quickly become a favorite in our World Music Drumming lessons, and the sense of teamwork and joy it brings to the classroom is inspiring.\r\n\r\nThank you for making this possible and for giving my students the chance to grow musically through rhythm, collaboration, and creativity.\r\n\r\nWith gratitude,","fullyFundedDate":1756579630551,"projectUrl":"project/another-drum-for-world-music-drumming/9464240/","projectTitle":"Another Drum for World Music Drumming","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. French","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp263500_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1512233690240","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/french"},{"teacherId":263500,"projectId":9146113,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our project, Help Us Expand Our Musical Horizons with Playing the Gong! When the gongs first arrived, students were buzzing with excitement—eyes wide, eager to hear the deep, shimmering sounds and try them for themselves. The moment they struck their first gong, the room filled with awe and curiosity as they listened to the rich vibrations fade into silence.\r\n\r\nWe have already begun using the gongs in class to explore world music and sound effects in poetry. One of our favorite moments was when students added gong sounds to a poem they were performing, choosing when to play to match the mood of the words. It helped them think carefully about how sound can tell a story and create emotion. The gongs are also being used in ensembles, where students are learning how to listen, wait, and play together—important musical and life skills.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue using the gongs as part of a world music unit and in creative composition projects where they combine instruments, voices, and poetry. They could hardly wait to try them! We began with a movement activity where students used the ribbon streamers to show different musical elements—smooth vs. bouncy rhythms, fast vs. slow tempos, and high vs. low pitches. It was incredible to see how quickly they connected their movements with the music, and how confidently they expressed themselves in a way that went far beyond what we could do before. The parachute has been equally magical—students are working together to show musical form by raising and lowering the parachute during different sections of a piece. One favorite moment was when the whole class listened intently for the return of the \"A\" section in a song so they could all lift the parachute high together.\r\n\r\nYour gift has given my students a hands-on way to internalize music concepts while also practicing teamwork and creativity. These tools have opened up a world of possibility, and I know they will continue to inspire learning and joy for years to come.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you for making our music classroom more vibrant, active, and engaging. My students are experiencing rhythm in a truly hands-on way, feeling the beat under their palms as they play together. The larger sizes allow us to explore a greater variety of tones and dynamics, which has deepened their understanding of how percussion can shape music.\r\n\r\nDuring a recent lesson, we used the drums to layer different rhythms, and the joy on my students' faces as they created music together was priceless. The drums have given us the chance to blend creativity, teamwork, and music theory into something they can physically feel and hear.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, my students now have the opportunity to learn, explore, and grow musically with instruments that will benefit them for years to come. When the instruments arrived, the excitement in the room was instant—eyes widened, smiles appeared, and many students could not wait for their turn to try them. For many of my students, the finger cymbals were a completely new instrument, and they were amazed by the bright, shimmering sounds that they made.\r\n\r\nWe are already using these new instruments in a variety of hands-on learning activities. One of our favorite moments so far has been during a rhythm-and-movement activity where students worked in small groups to create short rhythmic patterns using the tambourines and finger cymbals. They practiced keeping a steady beat, layering rhythms, and listening carefully to one another to stay together as an ensemble. These instruments have allowed every student to actively participate—reading rhythms, improvising patterns, and performing as a group—while also exploring musical timbre in a meaningful way.\r\n\r\n We are excited to continue building on this learning. Our next steps include using the tambourines and finger cymbals in a unit focused on form and expression, where students will create sound stories and accompany songs using different textures and dynamics. These instruments will also be used to support ensemble skills such as listening, timing, and collaboration. Because of your kindness, my students are developing confidence, creativity, and a deeper love of music through hands-on exploration. I want to express my gratitude for the incredible support of the DonorsChoose Community in bringing ten sets of resonator bells to our music classroom! Your thoughtful contribution will have a profound and lasting impact on the musical journey of our young musicians.\r\n\r\nThese beautiful instruments allow for invaluable hands-on learning experiences. I wish you could have seen the excitement when the students physically strike each bell, directly connecting their actions to the sounds they create. Hands on learning with these bells will solidify my young musicians understanding of musical concepts in a way that simply listening cannot achieve.\r\n\r\nThe resonator bells have been a fantastic way for exploring pitch and melody. Students have been able to visually and aurally grasp how different pitches combine to create melodies. My students have been working to learn to play simple melodies, develop their ear training skills, and build a foundational understanding of music theory in an engaging and interactive way.\r\n\r\nThe resonator bells have given the students an opportunity to actively participate in making music, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of pitch.
