We use these resources throughout the day during independent work, reading time, and small group instruction. One of my favorite moments was during a math lesson when several students who usually struggle to stay seated were able to quietly bounce or stretch their legs with the chair bands while solving problems. Instead of getting distracted, they stayed focused and completed their work with confidence.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new seating options, they were incredibly excited. There were lots of smiles, curiosity, and questions about how they could try them. After we discussed expectations for using the flexible seating responsibly, students were eager to take turns and quickly began using them appropriately. Many students have already shared that the movement helps them concentrate better and makes learning feel more comfortable.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will continue using these flexible seating tools during upcoming lessons, especially during writing workshop and collaborative group activities where focus and engagement are important. These resources will help students stay active, regulated, and ready to learn as we continue exploring new concepts and building important academic skills together.","fullyFundedDate":1772136778155,"projectUrl":"project/active-bodies-focused-brains-flexible/10094385/","projectTitle":"Active Bodies, Focused Brains: Flexible Seating for Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Asay","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10413873_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1768957552924","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10413873"},{"teacherId":10098783,"projectId":9979624,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our Kindergarten classroom. Your generosity made a meaningful difference during one of the most important years in my students' academic journeys.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, my students were able to use hands-on, developmentally appropriate materials that allowed them to explore math and literacy in ways that truly met their needs. The Numberblocks Blockzee Balance and Sheep Farm MathLink Cubes helped students physically build and compare numbers, strengthening their number sense and making abstract concepts more concrete and understandable. The Numberblocks Playing Cards brought excitement and engagement to small-group math time, giving students meaningful practice with number recognition, comparing numbers, and early addition and subtraction through play.\r\n\r\nIn literacy, the ABC Arc Mat supported letter recognition and sound-symbol connections, helping students build strong foundational skills in an interactive and approachable way. The double-sided dry-erase boards also made a tremendous impact, especially for students who were still developing fine motor skills. Because of your generosity, our classroom has become a more structured, calm, and student-centered learning environment. The individual base ten block containers have made a tremendous difference during math time. Instead of sorting through mixed materials, each student now has easy access to their own organized set of blocks. This has allowed us to spend more time focusing on building number sense and solving problems, rather than managing materials. Students feel a sense of ownership and responsibility over their supplies, which has strengthened both their confidence and independence.\r\n\r\nThe storage bins have completely transformed how students access classroom materials. Everything now has a clearly defined space, making it simple for students to independently find and return what they need. When the materials were first introduced, students were genuinely excited to see how organized and accessible everything was. They quickly embraced the new system, and our transitions have become smoother and more efficient. The backpack hooks have also been a game changer for our unpacking and pack-up routines. Mornings are calmer, afternoons are more orderly, and students are able to begin and end their day with confidence and responsibility.\r\n\r\nBecause of your thoughtful support, we are continuing to build strong classroom routines that promote focus and independence. The globes and flashlights you provided allowed students to explore the concepts of day and night through active discovery. Watching their faces light up as they rotated the globes and shined the flashlights to model the sun was an unforgettable moment. They were able to clearly see how Earth's rotation causes day and night, and the excitement in the room was contagious as they made connections and shared their observations with one another.\r\n\r\nYour donation of base ten blocks has also made a tremendous impact on our math lessons. Students are now practicing addition in a concrete, hands-on way that helps solidify their understanding of place value. Instead of simply solving problems on paper, they are building numbers, regrouping tens and ones, and truly seeing how addition works. When the materials first arrived, students were eager to use them right away. They couldn't wait to start building and solving! The books you provided have opened the door to exploring different continents around the world, sparking curiosity and thoughtful discussions about geography, culture, and our global community.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our next steps include combining these resources into deeper learning projects. Students will continue using the globes during our Earth science unit, connecting geography to our reading about different continents. This tactile approach has turned previous points of frustration into breakthroughs of clarity, while the pattern blocks and realistic coins have given them the tools to master shape vocabulary and skip counting with confidence.\r\n\r\nBeyond student engagement, these materials have streamlined my ability to teach effectively. Having the base ten blocks sorted into individual containers was a game-changer; the students felt a sense of ownership and pride having their own organized sets, which made our transition into math time instant and focused.\r\n\r\nWe use these resources daily to make abstract math concepts concrete. The coins have been instrumental in helping students master skip counting by 5s and 10s using nickels and dimes. However, the biggest \"lightbulb moment\" came while using the base ten blocks. We were tackling addition with regrouping—a notoriously difficult concept. One student, who had been struggling to understand what \"carrying the one\" meant on paper, physically traded ten \"ones\" cubes for a \"ten\" rod. You could see the realization wash over their face as they shouted, \"Oh! I'm just making a trade!\"\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are excited to take these skills to the next level. We put these resources to use right away during our Force and Motion unit for a hands-on engineering challenge. The students were tasked with constructing a device that could move an object across a specific distance. They used the Hot Wheels cars to provide the driving force and engineered \"rafts\" out of the popsicle sticks and cardstock to drag objects behind them. The classroom was buzzing with excitement as they taped, tested, and modified their designs, turning abstract physics concepts into a fun, tangible reality.\r\n\r\nThanks to these supplies, my students now have a much deeper understanding of how pushes and pulls affect the movement of an object. Moving forward, we are taking this project to the next level by analyzing the data they collected during their builds to study friction. The students' next step is to test their Hot Wheels and raft contraptions on different textures—comparing smooth tile to rough carpet—to observe how surface resistance changes the force needed to move their creations.
