The materials you provided have made a huge impact in our classroom. When the hydroponic supplies first arrived, my students were amazed that we would be able to grow our own food right in the classroom. They were full of questions and excitement as we set up the system together, and many of them could not believe that plants could grow without soil. It immediately sparked curiosity and meaningful conversations about science, nutrition, and how food reaches our tables.\r\n\r\nWe are using the hydroponic system to grow leafy greens that will be donated to our school's food pantry. One of my favorite moments was when students checked the plants one morning and noticed how much they had grown overnight. They were so proud knowing that something they are caring for will help families in our own school community. Many of my students receive food bags on weekends and breaks, so this project feels very personal to them and has helped them understand the importance of giving back.\r\n\r\nNext, students will be tracking plant growth, recording data, and learning more about plant life cycles and sustainability as part of our science lessons. We also plan to harvest our first batch of greens soon and deliver them to the pantry, which my students are very excited about. Before I received your materials I only had enough rhythm sticks for classroom of students to play. The students are now using the guiros, hand drums, maracas and bongos to read rhythm patterns, learn note values and create rhythms of their own. In fact, the students insist on switching instruments because they all want the opportunity to play all of the new instruments. My K-2 students are now asking \"Are we going to play instruments today? We want to play instruments!\"\r\n One kindergarten class noticed that I had not yet opened a box of hand drums that you sent. They asked me \"What is in the box?\" Seeing their eagerness to find out I scrapped my lesson plan for the rest of the class and had the students help me open the box of hand drums. They spent the rest of the class playing the hand drums and other instruments. While students use the books in the library while they are building, they are also able to check out the books and use them at home. I love seeing how students start ideas in the library, refine them at home, and then come back to the library space to share them. I am trying to figure out ways where students can write their own building guides that other classes can use in the library. This is the first of many task that my students are expected to independently complete each day.\r\nMy students have learned to identify their first name within various locations in the classroom. Having their name on the individual cubbies allows them to identify a personal space for their jacket and backpack. Your gift has afforded my students an opportunity to practice these skills daily. Now that they can find their name, they are learning to place their jacket on the hook instead of stuffing it in the cubby. \r\nWe also use the cubbies to house some of the books in our classroom.
