We're nearly to a full class set! When we reach the magic number, we'll break out the new cameras for all students.\r\n\r\nAlthough our current class set is still functional for learning the basics of photography, it's no longer modern technology. Indeed, DSLRs come from a different era when a mirror in the camera allows us to see what we're photographing; when the shutter button is pushed, the mirror flips up and the camera sensor is exposed to light. New mirrorless cameras just have an LCD in the viewfinder which shows us exactly what the sensor is perceiving. This new technology is cheaper and lighter, but also provides more accurate sensory data to the photographer: exposure level and precise framing are both vastly improved. The macro photo attached is just one example of the type of work our students will be producing with this new equipment. \r\n\r\nSince these mirrorless tools are now so superior to the DSLRS of the 2000s and 2010s, nearly all professional photographers have switched over. Training our students on current technology is so important. Anyone pursuing the arts past high school will certainly have a leg up, to say nothing of the improved photography as high school students. Better low light performance, faster and more accurate autofocus, and higher resolution all add to the shooting experience of our students. \r\n\r\nFor all of these reasons, I know our students are benefiting greatly from your generosity!","fullyFundedDate":1763091281414,"projectUrl":"project/cameras-for-photography-class/9891893/","projectTitle":"Cameras for Photography Class","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Girvin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10348899_orig.jpg?crop=499,499,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762965829193","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10348899"},{"teacherId":6098067,"projectId":9606052,"letterContent":"I appreciate your support of this project! Our library has received all of the items we wished for, and the students love them. \r\n\r\nGovernment classes held a model congress in April, and the library hosted members of the (student) Senate. Students were thrilled to surprise their government teachers with a Lego model of the U.S. Congress Building that they built as we transformed the library into a congressional committee meeting space. \r\n\r\nMay is a month of many tests for our students. SOL and AP tests assess the important learning that has taken place over the school year... and generate a fair bit of stress for students. The library is a place where they can both study and refresh. The large coloring poster and markers as well as the puzzles have been popular activities for students to take \"just five minutes\" to reset their focus. \r\n\r\nI can't thank you enough for helping to shape WAHS library into a space of both community and learning. Your donation has made a noticeable and appreciated difference.
