Students sat in a circle on cushions, and each student read at least a few sentences (or more if they wanted). If a student needed help with pronunciation, I would help, or if they mispronounced a word, I or another student would correct them. This activity fostered an encouraging classroom environment. Also, students felt a sense of accomplishment after finishing reading a book in English. Throughout the story, I did comprehension checks to understand, and we learned many new words in English. This book was a terrific choice for English language learners as it provided a clear, easy to understand storyline for my students to follow and at time make connections.","fullyFundedDate":1755821030270,"projectUrl":"project/help-our-class-read-shoeshine-girl/9552774/","projectTitle":"Help Our Class Read Shoeshine Girl","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sadacca","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9574757_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y772&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723318865512","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9574757"},{"teacherId":9574757,"projectId":8923181,"letterContent":"Students took photos of something meaningful or beautiful to them or of an object that reminded them of someone they admire. They are enjoying using the camera to express their creativity!\r\nIt has been exciting for my students to use a camera unlike one they've ever used before, and have almost immediate results. Some students have taken photos of their friends because they want to remember them, and next year they will be attending different schools. \r\nAfter taking a photo, students used a graphic organizer to start writing a descriptive paragraph or story about their photo. Their writing is being workshopped, and many students have already completed their final draft of their paragraph. For our end-of-the-year celebration, students will display their work in the hallways, so that their family and friends can see their stunning projects. The photo will be framed above their paragraphs, and this project will serve as a piece they put careful effort into that they can take home on the last day of school. \r\nThank you for your support and for making this project possible for our fantastic students!","fullyFundedDate":1738246588158,"projectUrl":"project/a-camera-to-document-our-projects-more/8923181/","projectTitle":"A Camera to Document Our Projects & More!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sadacca","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9574757_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y772&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723318865512","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9574757"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_132148","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":43,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":55,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":132148,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Newcomer's Learning Community School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Newcomer's Learning Community School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/albemarle-county-school-district/newcomer-s-learning-community-school/132148"}
