We use the binders every single day. Just this past week, each 5th grader went back through our binders to select pieces of work they are proud of for me to share at parent-teacher conferences. We have been storing unfinished work in the pockets, and then organizing work based on unit in the binder. I love that they are learning these organizational skills that will prepare them for middle and high school. Having binders has been such a life changer compared to workbooks or folders!\r\n\r\nThe rolling whiteboard + chart paper has also been amazing. It's nice to set it up in order for students to go around and add their thoughts to \"stations\" around the room. It gets them moving, and gives me flexibility in where to put that station. The paper having a sticky-note top is also so nice, because then I can hang the posters up anywhere in the room! \r\n\r\nThe start of my teaching career would be drastically more challenging without these supplies. I am so grateful that you believe in the work that I am doing, and the support you have given me will not be forgotten. I am deeply appreciative. My students absolutely lit up with delight when we unboxed all the new books. They had been complaining about having already read most of the graphic novels in my classroom. There was a lot of discussion around who gets to read what first! \r\n\r\nSo far \"Frizzy\" has been read by at least 3 of them, and \"Mexikid\" has been living in one students desk- he is sneakily reading it during math, which I discourage, but can't help but smile about. We've selected \"When Stars are Scattered\" as a book group read- It's technically above grade level, but they are all excited about it, and so I will scaffold and make it work! There are so many great books in our collection now, and the energy around reading has totally increased!\r\n\r\nI've been carefully creating comfy reading spaces too. The most recent addition is a big cardboard box. I draw a popsicle stick to decide who gets to read in the box each independent reading time. They LOVE it! We log our independent reading minutes on an online platform, and different grades compete on the leaderboard each week. So far we have been winning, although 3rd grade is sneaking up on us. \r\n\r\nI have such an amazing group of kids this year. They come from difficult home situations, but they show up every day with a willingness to learn and be a part of our community. I feel really really grateful to be able to provide them with such an amazing classroom library.
