One of my favorite moments so far was seeing students gathered around the Tiny Polka Dot game, excitedly recognizing quantities and proudly explaining how they \"just knew\" the number without counting. The ten-frame card cases have helped students feel independent and capable—they can choose what they need, set themselves up, and get right to work. When students first saw the materials, their excitement was genuine and immediate; they were eager to explore, play, and show what they knew, which made math feel welcoming and fun.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students now have tools that truly support how young learners build number sense and fluency. Our next steps include using these materials to strengthen composing and decomposing numbers, develop early addition and subtraction strategies, and build confidence with numbers through play and discussion. These resources have become a meaningful part of our classroom community, and they are helping students see themselves as capable mathematicians. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to learn, grow, and enjoy math together—your support is felt every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1750686520246,"projectUrl":"project/making-math-fun/9274352/","projectTitle":"Making Math Fun!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gonyaw","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1726765_orig.jpg?crop=367,367,x0,y24&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723503431474","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1726765"},{"teacherId":1726765,"projectId":9498391,"letterContent":"I have been working with a High School class of reluctant workers. All year, we have been trying to show work and compare different work samples. We have recently had some great successes! We solved a story problem and then students worked together to represent the data. As we compared graphs, learners noticed that the graphs counted the \"squares\" differently, by one unit per \"square\" on the graph paper on the y axis and the graph and by 2 \"squares\" for every unit, which made the angles of the lines look a bit different. Further investigation caused the group members to realize that they labeled their axes incorrectly (so we did a little old fashioned cut and paste). These materials helped us \"see\" differences and learn that it is OK to make mistakes! This was a HUGE win!!! \r\n\r\nThroughout the semester, materials helped us practice plotting points, graphing slope, and so much more.
