We have received the artist books and chose our first artist to learn about. We started with Wassily Kandinsky, who the children really enjoyed learning about! We learned about his life, his art, and his condition called synesthesia (he sees color when he hears music- This really influenced his art). The kids really thought about how he was not happy as a lawyer, and how art made him feel alive. I want my students to realize that their own passions are important, and that they can shape who we are. \r\n One of my biggest inspirations for this project is to have artists that represent all people. I wanted to make sure to have women represented, people with disabilities, as well as people of different nationalities and backgrounds. I wanted children to see these artists and identify with them on a deeper level. I wanted these artists to connect with my students and teach them about life. \r\n My students experimented with art in a similar style to Kandinsky. We used circles and abstract shapes to focus on, but I explained that the most important part is to explore using these concepts, but to \"follow your own dream\" in regard to the artwork we produce. Each child created a unique piece of art in a style similar to Kandinsky, but each one is different based on the feelings and inspiration of the students. \r\nI am so excited to learn about our next artist, and to watch children blossom, connect, and express themselves through art. I am so inspired to think that we have one artist per month for the entire school year. And that is because of your amazing donation. Thank you again! You have really added to our program.","fullyFundedDate":1750256537415,"projectUrl":"project/preschoolers-experience-famous-artists/9328670/","projectTitle":"Preschoolers Experience Famous Artists!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Caryn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10022795_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y563&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1748898923242","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10022795"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_35151","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":375,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":24,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":92,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"18.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":70.6,"schoolId":35151,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Richmond Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Richmond Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/vermont/chittenden-east-su-12/richmond-elementary-school/35151"}
