You haven't just provided books; you have provided access, choice, and a pathway to literacy for every single child in my classroom.\r\n\r\nReading in our second-grade classroom is a vibrant, active, and collaborative experience. Now, with our new texts, it is even more dynamic. Students start their literacy block with \"Book Shopping,\" excitedly picking out books from the newly stocked shelves that match their interests and reading levels—the new selection means every child can find a book they genuinely connect with. We then transition into independent reading time where the room is filled with quiet concentration as students practice their fluency and comprehension skills. These new books also form the backbone of our small group instruction and whole-class read-alouds, enabling us to study themes and literary devices together.\r\n\r\nThese new texts are allowing me to introduce crucial lessons, helping my students grow from decoding to deep comprehension. For instance, our new non-fiction series has been perfect for teaching students to identify the main idea and supporting details, a foundational skill for all subjects. Our new collection of diverse chapter books is helping us practice inferring characters' motivations and analyzing the story structure (beginning, middle, and end). I've already noticed particular students, like Rosa, who now gravitates toward the Pup Detectives, staying engaged for longer than ever before. Another student, Easton, has found immense joy in the new Guinness World Records, which has boosted their confidence and participation during group discussions.","fullyFundedDate":1755747472135,"projectUrl":"project/help-fill-our-empty-bookshelves/9581400/","projectTitle":"Help Fill Our Empty Bookshelves","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Emerson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1444077"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_35254","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":121,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":64,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":95,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":55.6,"schoolId":35254,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Washington Village School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Washington Village School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/vermont/central-vermont-supervisory-union/washington-village-elementary-school/35254"}
