The wide range of levels, genres, and topics has created a reading environment where all students—regardless of ability—can find something meaningful, accessible, and exciting to read.\r\nThe books you funded include everything from \"Who Was...?\" nonfiction series, to adapted classics such as Jane Austen stories, Sherlock Holmes mysteries, and tales like King Arthur. We also now have fairy tales, science books, graphic novels, and popular favorites like Percy Jackson, ensuring that both reluctant and eager readers have a reason to pick up a book.\r\nBecause our students have such varied reading levels and interests, this assortment allows each child to choose texts that match their skills while still challenging and inspiring them. The library now supports group lessons, independent reading, and targeted instruction—all with books the students are excited to explore.\r\nStudents love that the library feels like it was built for them. They enjoy having real choices: fantasy adventures, informational texts, mysteries, classic tales, and graphic novels with supportive visuals. Many students who once hesitated to pick up a book now rush to the shelves during free time because the stories feel approachable and fun.\r\nThe variety also helps students build confidence. When they finish one book, they know there's another waiting that matches their interests and reading level.\r\nThe impact has been remarkable. Several students who rarely engaged with books before are now choosing reading during free time. Others have discovered new genres they love—like classic stories made accessible, or engaging graphic novels that spark deeper comprehension.\r\nOne student in particular has shown extraordinary growth: they jumped two full grade levels in reading within a single year, supported by the high-interest, appropriately leveled texts now available in our library. This kind of progress is life-changing and shows exactly how powerful access to the right books can be.\r\nThank you for giving our students a library that inspires them, challenges them, and helps them grow. Your support has turned reading into a source of joy, confidence, and discovery for every child in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1746786100880,"projectUrl":"project/special-education-literature-and-texts/9132611/","projectTitle":"Special Education: Literature and Texts","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Layton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8281011_orig.jpg?crop=1484,1484,x230,y640&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1705094617668","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8281011"},{"teacherId":8281011,"projectId":9132479,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our Special Education: History, Geography, and Social Studies project has opened the door to deeper curiosity and meaningful learning for our students. This project was inspired by their growing interest in these subjects, and the workbooks you provided have given them the tools to explore the world in a way that fits their learning needs.\r\nStudents in special education often need structured, visually supported materials that break down big ideas into manageable pieces. The workbooks you funded do exactly that. They offer:\r\n-Clear visuals and simplified explanations that make complex historical and geographical concepts understandable.\r\n-Step-by-step activities that help students stay engaged and build confidence as they complete tasks.\r\n-High-interest topics that connect to things students are genuinely curious about—countries, cultures, historical events, and how communities work.\r\nBecause the workbooks match their interests, students are motivated to read, think, and ask questions in ways we hadn't seen before.\r\nStudents are especially excited about learning more about the world beyond their classroom. They enjoy:\r\n-Identifying countries on maps\r\n-Learning facts about different cultures\r\n-Exploring timelines of important events\r\n-Completing activities that help them connect what they learn to their own lives\r\nSeveral students who rarely showed enthusiasm for academic work have become some of our most eager learners thanks to these workbooks.\r\n-One student who struggles with reading now proudly completes geography pages because the visuals support their understanding.\r\n-Another student with a passion for history spends free-choice time exploring sections about ancient civilizations and American landmarks and Reading about historical figures in the book collections provided.\r\n-Students who typically become overwhelmed by large assignments are succeeding with these structured, bite-sized lessons.\r\nWe've seen increased focus, higher participation, and genuine excitement—all because the materials align with students' interests and learning styles.","fullyFundedDate":1746786112360,"projectUrl":"project/special-education-history-geography-a/9132479/","projectTitle":"Special Education: History, Geography, and Social Studies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Layton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8281011_orig.jpg?crop=1484,1484,x230,y640&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1705094617668","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8281011"},{"teacherId":8281011,"projectId":8927125,"letterContent":"Students in special education often benefit from concrete visuals, clear models, and hands-on exploration. My students immediately began exploring the sensory items with curiosity and joy. One student, who often struggles with transitions and calming down, found comfort in one of the sensory tools right away. That moment reminded me of the power of giving students options that help them feel safe and in control. With sensory breaks built into the day using these materials, my students are able to return to their academic tasks with greater focus and less frustration.\r\nWhat I appreciate most is how these materials support the whole child. In special education, academics and sensory regulation go hand in hand. A student who is overwhelmed cannot focus on counting or reading, but when they are given the right tools to self-regulate, their learning potential expands. That independence is a huge step toward their long-term success in school and beyond. Every day, I see them growing stronger, calmer, and more capable.","fullyFundedDate":1746786207205,"projectUrl":"project/special-education-pre-academics-and-sen/9132880/","projectTitle":"Special Education: Pre-academics and Sensory Needs","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Layton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8281011_orig.jpg?crop=1484,1484,x230,y640&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1705094617668","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8281011"},{"teacherId":8281011,"projectId":9132748,"letterContent":"Thanks to the generous donation of science materials, my students were given something truly special: the chance to explore, create, and learn science in a way that made sense to them. These resources allowed us to move beyond textbooks and worksheets into a world of hands-on discovery, where students could touch, build, test, and try again. For my students in special education, this kind of learning is not just helpful—it's essential.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting activities came from building two small devices that could send a signal to turn on a light. My students carefully followed steps to put the parts together, and then the real fun began. They moved around the room, trying different angles and distances to see when and how the light would turn on. They were completely engaged—smiling, talking, and even taking turns helping each other. For some of my students, who struggle with focus or communication, this was a big moment. They weren't just learning—they were leading.\r\n\r\nWe also explored the world of movement and force with race cars and simple machines. Students got to build, test, and race their own cars, learning by doing. They noticed how ramps or textures changed the speed, and they proudly made predictions and cheered when they were right. These activities gave my students a chance to learn with their hands, and to see science in action.\r\n\r\nMore than anything, these materials created opportunities. Opportunities to feel successful. To work with others. To follow steps. To share their thinking. To build confidence. Some of my students don't always get to shine in traditional academic tasks, but these science experiences gave them moments of pride, leadership, and joy.\r\n\r\nEvery activity became a chance for students to practice important life skills like turn-taking, listening, problem-solving, and communication. And through it all, they were excited. They were curious. They felt like real scientists.\r\n\r\nI am truly thankful for this donation. It has opened doors for my students to learn in the way that works best for them.
