Students get to \"buy\" supplies and other desk pets during this rotation. Each class earns this in their own classroom. The teacher lets me know how many choices their class earns. Then they choose what they want at the pet shop. We have been having the best time playing these games! My students get so excited when I say we are going to play our multiplication and division games. When I first introduced these games to my students their faces lit up with excitement. This was a new way that they would be able to remember their math facts. Right now, in class we have been working on perimeter and area. It has been so important for my students to know their math facts while learning these concepts. I can ask my students to tell me the area of a shape which requires being able to multiply the length and the width. I have noticed that my students have been very quick in being able to multiply and get the correct answer. One of my favorite parts of having these games is to watch how my students interact with each other. Students who normally have a hard time engaging with their peers are able to have fun and connect with other students while they play these games. Multiplication and division are skills that students will never stop using throughout their lives. In a few weeks my students will be learning double digit by double digit multiplication and long division. Knowing their math facts will benefit them greatly as they learn the steps to these math concepts. The step stool for me helps me not climb on counters and risk falling over, and I can now reach on top of my cabinets where I couldn't before.\r\n\r\nThe students were so excited to each have their own comfy cushion to sit on. They didn't fight about colors or anything, they were just excited to see that there was enough for everyone and that they were fun to sit on. The stepping stools are used both for reaching things up high, and for a \"podium.\" They love being the called on student and standing up tall on the stool for everyone to see.\r\n\r\nThese items have really made my class \"glow\" with excitement and eagerness to learn.
