Having the candles, tablecloths, feather pens, and costumes really set the stage. My students were able to understand what it must have been like during the convention. They felt the frustration of trying to get their ideas heard, and they understood the importance of compromise. They learned about the importance of the Constitution to our country.\r\n\r\nMy next step will be to have students write a speech and present it to a few community members who work in our area. I want them to be able to answer questions that accompany their speech. \r\n\r\nThanks again! My students were thrilled to see the room transformed into what it might have been like in Philadelphia during the convention. I appreciate you helping history come to life for my classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1761245614812,"projectUrl":"project/constitutional-convention-reenactment/9444197/","projectTitle":"Constitutional Convention Reenactment","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Huggard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2387855"},{"teacherId":2387855,"projectId":8927000,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to my class. These activities sparked an interest in language arts that has been missing. I wanted to make grammar interesting, and because of your donation, I was able to do that. I was able to do two different projects with these materials. \r\nThe first was to transform my classroom into an Italian restaurant. I covered the desks with tablecloths. Inside the pizza boxes were activities for the students to do with commas and periods. The students had to use different shapes of noodles that represented punctuation. They took their noodle and dipped it into the sauce (Elmer's glue) and completed the project by putting commas and periods in the correct place. They then finished by writing sentences with correct punctuation. If they completed their assignment, they got pizza.\r\nThe second project we did was to transform my classroom into a runway to have an Idiom Fashion Show. The students studied idioms, and the culminating project was to make a shirt that showed one idiom. On one sleeve the students wrote an idiom and its meaning. On the other sleeve the students wrote a sentence with the idiom. The front of the shirt was a drawing of the literal meaning of the idiom. The back of the shirt was a drawing of the figurative meaning of the idiom. \r\nThe students loved drawing on their t shirts with the fabric markers. The students were excited about showing off the shirts they made, and bonus, they learned meanings of idioms along the way. They also enjoyed being in a \"restaurant\". This is the first time I have ever taught commas and the word \"fun\" was used!\r\nI want to continue to transform my classroom. My next project will be to transform the classroom into a surgical unit. I will give the students surgical caps, gowns, and masks. They will each have a cut out of a person that has multiple wounds. Each wound is a math problem where they have to follow the correct order of operations (operations, get it). If they complete all the problems correctly, they will save the patient and earn a pen that looks like a medicine dropper.
