Let me share the ways these items have improved focus and paying attention during our class each day.\r\n\r\nThe vibration of the \"hug pillow\" catches student's interest immediately both from the tactile sensation and the sound. We were able to turn it into a game for one of our non-verbal students by putting it on the classroom rocking chair and letting him crash into it. We put it on the seat of a cube chair at circle to help the student stay in their seat.\r\n\r\nThe weighted pillow with vibration that can be turned on and off with a switch is great for our busiest little bodies to hold during circle time to help them receive the deep pressure and tactile sensation that can be both soothing and alerting. Several of the students are fascinated by switches and since the switch on this pillow is meant to be used by practitioners, it has given our seekers a chance to have some fun solving the mystery. Where are those buttons hidden? \r\n\r\nThe green \"jello\" squish pad has been used for standing on, kneeling on, running underneath hands, and even mouthing (although this one is discouraged....ha!) It's not really jello kids!\r\n\r\nThis year there are several 3 year olds in my class and having two inflatable pea pod \"boats\" has prevented them from fighting over who gets a turn. These \"baby three's\" are still in the ego-centric stage of social development and haven't demonstrated theory of mind yet; they aren't quite ready to learn turn-taking. I am also grateful that we will have two pods on hand to decrease wear and tear on just one. They are very sturdy high quality products and I think they will last many years.\r\n\r\nI surely appreciate your generosity and kindness in helping supply equipment to meet the sensory needs of my students.\r\n\r\nHave a blessed day!","fullyFundedDate":1755714660797,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-diet-check/9601707/","projectTitle":"Sensory Diet, Check!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Charlesworth","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/821541"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_52977","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":414,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":8,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":89,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":52977,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Reading Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Reading Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/utah/davis-school-district/reading-elementary-school/52977"}
