The book bins, new novels, and barometer have already made a big difference.\r\nThe book bins have given each student a personal, organized space they can easily carry around the room or to other classrooms. This simple tool has made transitions smoother and has helped students feel more independent and prepared.\r\nThe additional novels were an instant hit. Our reading program focuses on Sherlock Holmes and The Titanic, and students were thrilled to find more books connected to these topics. They immediately started comparing clues, characters, and historical details—proof of how much these new titles fuel their curiosity and engagement.\r\nThe barometer brings weather lessons to life. Students love taking turns as our classroom \"meteorologist.\" It's been the perfect tool for connecting science to the real world.\r\nWhat's next: We're continuing our weather-tracking project and diving deeper into our mystery and historical fiction novels. These resources are helping students explore, question, and learn with confidence every day.\r\nThank you for making such meaningful moments possible.","fullyFundedDate":1755748837584,"projectUrl":"project/books-and-barometers-fueling-young-mind/9281270/","projectTitle":"Books and Barometers: Fueling Young Minds with Stories and Science!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Combs","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp977175_orig.jpg?crop=354,354,x0,y3&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1555226624808","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/wendy-combs"},{"teacherId":5468301,"projectId":9596603,"letterContent":"Thank you for your contribution to our Donor's choose project. Your donation has helped my 24 fifth graders engage with science phenomenon and explore their abilities to investigate and reason. \r\n\r\nWe have enjoyed learning about the world around us through the lens of Earth's four spheres. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to create weathering models, as well as simulate the water cycle in our own classroom to explore if we could \"make it rain\"! The students actually came up with their own investigations to see what causes more and less rain, and we applied our findings to the events of the Dust Bowl to reason whether or not we could prevent a future drought. \r\n\r\nThere are also several upcoming units that we will be using with these supplies. These texts have opened the door for meaningful reading experiences where students practice key skills such as identifying themes, making inferences, and connecting stories to their own lives. Picture books are a powerful way for students to see how words and illustrations work together to tell a story, and they've quickly become a favorite resource during our reading time.\r\nOne of the most meaningful ways we've used these books was during a day I had a substitute. Each student chose a picture book or nonfiction text, spent time reading it independently, and then shared about their book with the class. This turned into a lively \"book celebration,\" where students practiced summarizing, speaking, and listening—all while discovering new titles they were excited about. They loved this project because it was something fresh and different from our usual ELA routine, and it gave them ownership over their reading choices.\r\nIt has been a joy to watch students gravitate toward certain stories that speak to them. Some students are drawn to the nonfiction selections, eager to share fascinating facts they've learned, while others can't wait to talk about the characters and illustrations in their favorite picture books. These resources have not only made reading more engaging, but they've also built a stronger sense of community in our classroom as students learn from one another's reading experiences.","fullyFundedDate":1746464879949,"projectUrl":"project/reading-magic-picture-books-to-inspire/9252364/","projectTitle":"\"Reading Magic: Picture Books to Inspire Young Minds\"","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. COSTER","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3864677_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1477941844608","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3864677"},{"teacherId":1052750,"projectId":9597593,"letterContent":"My students were so excited when I showed them the new mechanical pencils that they would get to use this year!
