Our students had an absolute blast when we first used them, and now they pull them out on a regular basis when they have brain breaks! These games are helping to support learning, social growth, and personal development in meaningful ways.\r\n Without the use of electronics our students are strengthening critical thinking and problem-solving skills. They are having students plan ahead, make decisions, adapt strategies, and analyze outcomes. This kind of hands-on thinking helps students practice logic and reasoning in a low-pressure, enjoyable way.\r\n The board games are also promoting social interaction and communication. Playing together encourages students to talk, listen, negotiate rules, explain ideas, and collaborate or compete respectfully. These face-to-face interactions help build teamwork, empathy, and conflict-resolution skills that are difficult to develop through screens alone.\r\n In addition to a little fun, the board games are supporting academic learning. Games can reinforce math skills, language skills, and even history or geography, depending on the game. Learning feels more engaging because students are actively involved rather than passively receiving information. Without relying on devices, all students can participate equally, reducing distractions and encouraging focus. \r\n Overall, thanks to you, our project has been an overall success. Board games provide a meaningful, technology-free way to support students' cognitive, social, emotional, and academic growth while making learning enjoyable and interactive.","fullyFundedDate":1761444949489,"projectUrl":"project/game-on/9748057/","projectTitle":"Game On!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Patek","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10274751_orig.jpg?crop=162,162,x0,y8&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759292100361","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10274751"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_12574","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":129,"numTeachers":11,"percentFrplEligible":92,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":46,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":88.2,"schoolId":12574,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Yorktown Junior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Yorktown Junior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/yorktown-independent-school-district/yorktown-junior-high-school/12574"}
