Students took turns passing the balloon around and shared their ideas for upcoming projects, suggesting activities such as elephant toothpaste, egg drop, balloon rockets, and more. After introductions, I dimmed the lights to illustrate how germs spread and demonstrated proper handwashing techniques. The balloons have since been utilized in several other classroom activities, including demonstrations related to rocket science, states of matter, energy, friction, and various scientific curiosities.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their reactions ranged from surprise to curiosity. Many asked if the delivery person was a close friend of mine. I explained that a few generous donors provided these supplies for us. They inquired about the purpose, and I shared that these materials enable us to conduct engaging science experiments and activities.\r\n\r\nOur next project involves an egg drop challenge, where students will design a protective container for a raw egg to prevent it from breaking when dropped from a height. This experiment introduces principles of physics such as force, impact, inertia, and gravity, as students learn to use different materials to absorb and disperse the energy of impact effectively.","fullyFundedDate":1754350852619,"projectUrl":"project/in-our-science-club-excellence/9500259/","projectTitle":"In Our Science Club Excellence","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Cook","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9801662_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743440343837","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9801662"},{"teacherId":9068513,"projectId":7419674,"letterContent":"This project has provided approximately 250 students with an engaging learning experience about life cycles. An expert was invited to demonstrate candling techniques, allowing students to observe embryo development. Upon opening the first box, the Brooder Box, they were uncertain about what to expect. Questions arose regarding the possibility of receiving puppies, kittens, turtles, or various other baby animals. When I opened the second box, which contained snacks, a mix of confusion and joyful shrieks filled the room. I explained that these snacks would be used as rewards and for patient waiting. Their curiosity persisted regarding the unfolding events. I anticipated that the third box would reveal the surprise. Upon opening it, my students quickly recognized that an incubator was intended for eggs, leading to an excited uproar.\r\n\r\nTo date, my students have successfully hatched a set of eggs as part of this project. We had the benefit of the Agricultural Coordinator visiting our school, who educated the students about various chicken breeds, egg production, and different poultry species. They also gained insights into the hatching percentages of our eggs and acknowledged the reasons behind some eggs not hatching. This experience imparted valuable lessons on the responsibility and discipline required to manage an incubator effectively.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, my students will be exploring coordinate planes, graphs, and charts. Utilizing the data we have collected, we will create a graph and a chart to analyze the estimates my students made regarding the number of eggs predicted to hatch compared to the actual results.","fullyFundedDate":1734898463858,"projectUrl":"project/hatching-eggs-and-eating-snacks/8873255/","projectTitle":"Hatching Eggs and Eating Snacks","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Cook","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9801662_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743440343837","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9801662"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_96632","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":643,"numTeachers":46,"percentFrplEligible":42,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":67,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":80.0,"schoolId":96632,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Meador Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Meador Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/willis-independent-school-district/meador-elementary-school/96632"}
