Washington, Kate Burgess, Crockett, Cunningham, Fowler, Ben Milam, Sheppard, and Zundelowitz Elementary Schools. These stories cover a range of topics including anger, anxiety, bullying, suicide, grief, and general social skills. Bibliotherapy techniques are a great way for young minds to absorb content related to these topics in a way that is memorable and age appropriate. Additionally, this is a great way to quickly and concisely address the needs of the student with minimal prep needed. For example, if a student is in a mental health crisis and is in need of intervention from a counselor, reading a social story related to their area of concern is one great way to redirect their attention and de-escalate them emotionally and behaviorally. These books serve not only as an educational tool about various social emotional topics, but teach students strategies for coping with these everyday obstacles.
