Technology is a big part of how young students build early literacy skills, and having their own headphones allows them to focus during read-alouds, phonics lessons, and academic games without outside distractions. Many of our families aren't familiar with how these tools support early reading, but in the classroom, they help scholars hear letter sounds clearly, follow along with stories, and practice skills at their own pace.\r\n\r\nThe students were immediately excited about the headphones. Before, they would often ask, \"Why can't we listen to books like the older kids?\" Now they can—and their faces light up every time we pull out the devices. The independence the headphones give them is a big deal for this age. They love choosing a story on their tablet, listening closely, and then talking about what they learned.\r\n\r\nA couple of students have especially connected with the new technology. One scholar who normally struggles to stay focused during reading has been able to sit for much longer periods because the audio keeps him engaged. Another student who is still building confidence in English has been using the read-alouds to hear vocabulary modeled clearly, and it's showing in her participation. These small but meaningful moments are happening every day, and they're possible because you believed in our classroom. Thank you for giving our scholars the tools they need to grow.","fullyFundedDate":1531269541564,"projectUrl":"project/me-too-please/3363480/","projectTitle":"Me Too, Please.","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Palacios","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5401085_orig.jpg?crop=1261,1261,x455,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723778617097","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5401085"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_110481","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":344,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":84,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":84,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":70.5,"schoolId":110481,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Wayside Altamira Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Wayside Altamira Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/texas-department-of-education/wayside-altamira-academy/110481"}
