We are a math classroom so while I don't explicitly teach these books, I do use them as real life examples and the subjects of math problems. This sparks interest in them and students want to give them a chance. \r\n\r\nWe don't really have a functioning library at my school, so the students have very little exposure or access to different kinds of books. Some of them have been elated to be able to have a chance to read these books they've seen or their friends have talked about but their parents couldn't afford. \r\n\r\nMany of the students have been giving up their earned free time on the computer to read the new books. They have been drawing pictures of scenes they've read about it in books like Dog Man and Dork Diaries. I have many different cultures in my classroom so I have been introducing some of the books to the class during a rare extra moment just to entice them. The books about emotions that we received have been used during emotional wellbeing lessons. \r\n\r\nThese books are a wonderful motivator. The students are working quicker and better so they have more time to read. Thank you SO much for allowing my students this opportunity.","fullyFundedDate":1746783042448,"projectUrl":"project/math-classrooms-need-libraries-too/9330966/","projectTitle":"Math Classrooms Need Libraries Too!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Webber","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5088089_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1715049678959","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5088089"},{"teacherId":5088089,"projectId":9146833,"letterContent":"Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for supporting my students. These resources helped to make the days leading up to the STAAR test much smoother and are helping to make the beginning of this year organized and successful. Students have a designated place to turn in assignments and papers and they are able to access the supplies they need daily, including beautifully sharpened pencils!\r\n\r\nThere is also multiple incentive systems in my class that students are super excited for! I have colorful reward coupons as well as a treasure box full of fidgets they are working for. \r\n\r\nWhen we received these items, my students were initially most excited about the fidget toys for the treasure box. They didn't really appreciate the paper, paper cutter, erasers, or pencil sharpener until they realized that they were going to need them for their reward systems and how much better it was having super sharp pencils and good erasers! They also were able to do projects with the colored paper and were even more excited when they realized there was enough of it that they were going to get to choose their colors. They hadn't been able to do that before! This project made a HUGE difference in my class and for my students. I can't thank you enough for your donations and support.","fullyFundedDate":1742928624979,"projectUrl":"project/the-staar-is-coming-the-staar-is-coming/9146833/","projectTitle":"The STAAR Is Coming, the STAAR Is Coming!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Webber","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5088089_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1715049678959","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5088089"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_95548","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":565,"numTeachers":52,"percentFrplEligible":71,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":79,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"10.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.5,"schoolId":95548,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Harmony Science Academy - San Antonio on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Harmony Science Academy - San Antonio","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/texas-department-of-education/harmony-science-academy/95548"}
