My students love how precise and concise they are about varied topics. They are the perfect paired text as they are small enough to not overwhelm students when they are comparing information to their more complex historical novels. It gives perspectives of people who were there first hand in pivotal time periods in our collective history.\r\n\r\nI have the luxury of teaching English Language Arts and Social Studies together for 6th-8th grade. Marrying those two content areas has been a valued experience and provides an opportunity for my students to explore in depth the paths people chose throughout history. For World Cultures, my 6th graders read about the American Revolution for North America, the Holocaust for Europe, civil wars in Africa and the atomic bomb in Japan for Asia. My 7th graders read about broader themes in United States history that relates to Texas History. My 8th graders read a variety of historical novels related to the colonies, American Revolution and Civil War. One of my favorite units with them is when they are learning about the Constitution and pairing it with a dystopian novel.\r\n\r\nThe books I received from this donation help my students who are below grade level in reading. Our online book app that provides the audio of these books keeps my students on the same playing field as the rest of my class. They are able to participate in all of the projects assigned because they have access to the same information but on their reading level.","fullyFundedDate":1756835510411,"projectUrl":"project/help-build-classroom-library/9335301/","projectTitle":"Help Build Classroom Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Martinez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5404563_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1529098813081","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrsjmartinez"},{"teacherId":8848863,"projectId":7523009,"letterContent":"On behalf of our Pre-K 3 classroom, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to you for your generous snack donations. Your kindness has made such a positive impact on our students' daily experiences, and we are truly thankful for the way you have supported our growing learners.\r\n\r\nAs you know, young children are full of energy, curiosity, and excitement for learning. At this age, they are developing not only their academic skills but also their ability to regulate their emotions, manage their energy, and engage with one another in healthy and meaningful ways. Having access to nutritious and enjoyable snacks throughout the day helps support all of these important areas of growth. Your thoughtful donations ensure that our students have the fuel they need to participate fully in lessons, group activities, and play.\r\n\r\nEach day, snack time in our classroom is more than just an opportunity to eat—it is a moment for community, sharing, and practicing social skills. The children gather together, take turns, and use kind words like \"please\" and \"thank you.\" They talk with their friends, learn to wait patiently, and even begin conversations about healthy eating and making good choices. Because of your generosity, our snack times have become calm, joyful, and full of learning opportunities.\r\n\r\nYour contributions also help remove a burden from families who may otherwise find it difficult to provide daily snacks. Knowing that we have a reliable supply allows every child to feel included and cared for. There is no worry about who has or who doesn't have a snack; instead, all children are able to enjoy this important part of their day equally. This sense of belonging is essential in Pre-K, where children are forming the foundation of their confidence and their love for school.\r\n\r\nWe have seen firsthand the difference a full stomach makes. After snack time, children are more focused, more engaged, and ready to explore the activities we have planned. Whether it's painting at the art center, building with blocks, or listening attentively during story time, they are better prepared to learn and to thrive. We are grateful that your donations directly support their ability to succeed.\r\n\r\nBeyond the physical benefits, your generosity sends a powerful message to our children—that they are cared for, valued, and supported by a community that believes in them. At this age, children may not fully understand the effort and kindness behind your donations, but they feel it. They know that there is something special about coming to school and having their needs met with love and care. That feeling is one they will carry with them as they continue to grow.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us build a classroom environment filled with kindness, generosity, and community. Your support means more than words can express. Together, we are shaping not only the minds of our students but also their hearts.\r\n\r\nWith heartfelt appreciation,\r\nThe Pre-K 3 Classroom","fullyFundedDate":1700353914615,"projectUrl":"project/hungry-little-turtles/7523009/","projectTitle":"Hungry Little Turtles","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Efram","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8848863_orig.jpg?crop=2149,2149,x0,y471&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690651037683","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8848863"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_25131","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":718,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":82,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":32,"percentWhite":22,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":36,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.7,"schoolId":25131,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Odyssey Academy Webster on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Odyssey Academy Webster","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/texas-department-of-education/bay-area-charter-school/25131"}
