I have not been able to get pictures or thank-you's from the students as this is a juvenile facility and I let them have the books over the summer. I will keep trying to get those for you.\r\n\r\nMeanwhile, let me tell you about how much the kids loved the Inheritance series you all got for them. The first thing they told me when I returned to work was that there are two more and that I must get them copies so they can keep reading the series. These kids don't have access to the internet, so I don't even know how they knew that (I have access and I didn't know). They loved the suspense and mystery-- trying to solve the puzzle. They argued about who figured it out first. \r\n\r\nMore importantly, my ESL students were able to read the same books and discuss them with their English speaking peers. This has helped those students to recognize more written English as they read side by side with students reading the books in English, and it improved their conversational skills as they discussed what was happening in the books. This kept them reading all summer, and not only did it maintain my English speakers' skills, but it improved my ESL students skills (and they didn't even realize they \r\nwere learning-- that's the best part!).\r\n\r\nThey were so much more prepared to read when school started again this year. They are heavily invested in this semester's novel-- more than previously-- and have learned to truly enjoy the power of stories. I can't thank you enough for helping my students improve their skills and for showing them that people do care about them. That means so much to them!","fullyFundedDate":1749834868983,"projectUrl":"project/eslenglish-speakers-combined-book-exper/9384374/","projectTitle":"ESL/English Speakers Combined Book Experience","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Molidor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8690656"},{"teacherId":8690656,"projectId":9382169,"letterContent":"I want to thank you for supporting my students' in reading. I am sorry it's taken a long time to reply. I can't send pictures and the students sending thank-you's is also tricky with the way my school locks down any information about the students as this is a juvenile facility. But I have been interviewing students about the books, and have received a ton of feedback.\r\n\r\nThe students loved both series that you got for them, first of all. They found both the 6 of Crows and the Shadow and Bone series to be extremely exciting. The books arrived just in time for summer and were given to the boys in the sections so that they would continue reading over the summer, and boy, did they! Everyone read at least one of the five total books, and they could not say enough about how much they enjoyed having them. Some of the newer students were just starting to read them, and the others enjoyed dropping little hints about what was coming in each series. Those that hadn't finished were vying to be the next one to get the next book they needed to read. I am glad you got them more than one set of each-- they devoured these books!\r\n\r\nThis was just the sort of reaction I was hoping for! They were discussing the books, sharing insights, and begging for more. One student told me that he never enjoyed reading before, but now he wanted to read all the time. He was actively looking for new books to read after finishing these two series. \r\n\r\nThey returned this fall with very little skill loss, and eager to begin reading in class. I can't thank you enough for helping these students maintain and improve their skills, but, even more importantly, showing them that people care about them. Sometimes it's hard for them to see, but it means so much for them to know that others believe in them. You have made such a difference for these kids!","fullyFundedDate":1748814301069,"projectUrl":"project/give-my-students-novels-they-crave/9382169/","projectTitle":"Give My Students Novels They Crave","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Molidor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8690656"},{"teacherId":10174736,"projectId":9619024,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our Donors Choose project. Your support has provided our classroom with a wonderful selection of chapter books that will open new doors of imagination and discovery for our students. These books are more than just stories—they are opportunities for our at-risk learners to develop stronger reading skills, explore new worlds, and see themselves as capable and curious readers.\r\n\r\nYour kindness is helping to create a learning environment filled with excitement, creativity, and hope. We really appreciate having class sets of new books to read. As I have multiple grade levels in my classes and some students who return, it's important that I have different books for us to read each year. These new books will help me make sure that a student doesn't have to read the same book in my class this that they did last year or the year before. They were so excited for me to show them what we would be reading in the future. \r\n\r\nWe started Harvest House already, and they love it. They are so interested in the themes of acceptance and understanding, plus the spookiness is keeping their attention. We have had many great discussions ranging from the possibility of ghosts to the history of Indigenous populations around the world to the importance of being culturally sensitive. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for affording them this opportunity to explore such timely and important issues. We are looking forward to exploring what should be brought forward into the future and under what conditions resistance is necessary with the next book on our list from your donation, The Last Cuentista.","fullyFundedDate":1730753656962,"projectUrl":"project/fostering-a-love-for-reading/8890083/","projectTitle":"Fostering a Love for Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Molidor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8690656"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_130701","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":69,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":64,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Weighted Average","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":50.0,"schoolId":130701,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Academy for Academic Excellence on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Academy for Academic Excellence","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/texas-department-of-education/academy-for-academic-excellence/130701"}
