Having multiple copies of the same titles allows students to read and discuss books together, which builds both their comprehension and their confidence. Through these texts, my students are learning how to analyze characters, identify themes, and cite evidence to support their ideas all skills that are essential for both academic growth and lifelong reading.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading now looks more like a community. Students gather in small groups, book in hand, and engage in thoughtful conversations about what they've read. They annotate important passages, share predictions, and even respectfully disagree with one another as they practice critical thinking.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were previously reluctant readers are now some of the most enthusiastic participants. One student in particular, who used to quietly avoid independent reading, has been eagerly waiting for her group's book club meetings. She said, \"It feels like we're in the story together,\" which shows just how powerful it is for students to have access to books they can share and discuss.","fullyFundedDate":1747428477895,"projectUrl":"project/growing-minds-one-book-club-at-a-time/9353098/","projectTitle":"Growing Minds One Book Club at a Time","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carabajal","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp672224_orig.jpg?crop=716,716,x221,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1620215358487","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-carabajal"},{"teacherId":672224,"projectId":9192287,"letterContent":"My students are using the donated supplies daily, and they have made a huge difference in our learning routines. For example, when we do close reading activities, students now use highlighters to mark important details and evidence in the text. During group discussions, sticky notes allow them to jot down quick thoughts, questions, and connections to share with their peers. One recent project was a \"book tasting,\" where students rotated through different genres. They used sticky notes to record their first impressions and favorite lines, and then kept them in page protectors to build their personal reading portfolios. Having the right tools made the activity feel more engaging and organized.\r\nThey were so excited! Many of them immediately grabbed a highlighter or sticky note and asked, \"Can we use these today?\" Their faces lit up knowing that they had their own supplies to use, and several students mentioned how helpful it would be for keeping track of their reading and ideas. The excitement carried over into our lessons and gave them a boost of confidence.\r\nRight now, we are working on strengthening our reading comprehension and writing skills through a cross-genre unit. The next step is for students to use the donated supplies to annotate texts, organize their notes in page protectors, and prepare evidence for short written responses. These tools are helping them build independence and develop strategies they'll carry with them throughout the school year.","fullyFundedDate":1746783040809,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-young-readers-and-writers-wit/9192287/","projectTitle":"Empowering Young Readers and Writers With Essential Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Carabajal","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp672224_orig.jpg?crop=716,716,x221,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1620215358487","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-carabajal"},{"teacherId":10004064,"projectId":9266085,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous support, our classroom has been transformed into a space filled with energy, laughter, and deep thinking. The moment my students saw the stack of new board games, puzzles, and logic challenges, their eyes lit up with excitement. Since then, these hands-on resources have become a favorite part of our weekly routine. Whether they are racing to connect four in a strategic showdown or working quietly on a 100-piece puzzle, I have seen students problem-solve, collaborate, and persevere in ways that go far beyond the screen. \r\n\r\nThese games have become a key part of our learning structure. During small group rotations, early finisher time, and brain breaks, students now have meaningful opportunities to practice communication, take turns, and think ahead-all while building their confidence and classroom community. \r\n\r\nThank you again for investing in our classroom. Your generosity was able to provide my classroom with a class set of headphones that were needed for instruction in our classroom this year. Our science standards changed this year in Texas and our district purchased a new curriculum from a new vendor this year which provided students with options to have portions of the instruction read to them. \r\n\r\nMany students felt self-conscious at first about using headphones in the classroom, since it was seen as an accommodation only certain students would use. Prior to having headphones, only students who had their own headphones were able to use them for lessons, and other students would want to use headphones, but if they didn't have their own they were unable to do so. With the use of a class set of headphones, we were able to set a whole classroom standard that the headphones could be used for all students, and it proved to be very successful. I saw improvement in student engagement in lessons, there were more opportunities for class discussions and think-pair-share opportunities, as well as improvement in overall test scores. \r\n\r\nThe students in my classroom felt unique since the headphones I purchased for them were colorful, as opposed to the typical black ones that may be provided to certain students on testing day. A new class set of scissors were also purchased that were needed as we created our science journals throughout the year. The scissors we had previously were elementary sized scissors, which didn't fit the hands of most of my middle school students, and/or were broken or not working properly. Thanks to your generous donation, you helped us have a great and exciting school year.","fullyFundedDate":1726847012881,"projectUrl":"project/bye-bye-noise/8769500/","projectTitle":"Bye Bye Noise","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ramirez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5482562_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1529710307423","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5482562"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_8173","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":635,"numTeachers":55,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":96,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":82.1,"schoolId":8173,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Christa McAuliffe Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Christa McAuliffe Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/southwest-independent-school-district/christa-mcauliffe-junior-high-school/8173"}
