When the students first saw the bins of Slot-A-Shape and Waffle Builders, their eyes widened with wonder. Unwrapping each bin was very exciting, full of laughter and excitement. One student immediately started lining up colors, shouting, \"I'm making a rainbow!\" a connection to our day and night unit. This excitement quickly turned into focused exploration, as they realized they could transform these simple pieces into complex structures and designs.\r\nIn our daily centers, these resources are already transforming how we learn. We recently used the Stretch & Connect Builders for a specific project on patterns. I watched a student who previously struggled with sequences carefully snap together a \"blue-yellow-blue-yellow\" pattern to create a bracelet and necklaces. The pride on his face when he realized he had mastered repetition and the way his peers began to copy his design, showed exactly how these tactile tools bridge the gap between abstract concepts and real-world success.\r\nNext, we are using these materials to build a neighborhood. Students will work in teams to design structures that represent their homes, using their new skills in sorting and patterning to add detail to their creations. Your generosity has provided the hands-on tools my students need to grow from natural explorers into confident, creative problem-solvers. \r\nThank you for investing in our classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1774451882238,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-math-fun-building-bright-minds/10122792/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Math Fun: Building Bright Minds in Pre-K","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Valdez-Garza","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7758567_orig.png?crop=796,796,x0,y37&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1687622444617","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msvaldezgarza"},{"teacherId":7758567,"projectId":9665647,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our 3- and 4-year-olds are building the foundation for lifelong reading through meaningful, joyful experiences with books. In Pre-K, literacy starts with simple but powerful moments, turning pages, studying illustrations, and listening to the rhythm and sounds of language. These new books allow us to teach essential early skills like letter and sound recognition, vocabulary development, story sequencing, and understanding how print works. They also open the door to important social-emotional conversations about feelings, friendship, kindness, and problem-solving.\r\n\r\nReading time in our classroom is active and engaging. During circle time, students gather on the rug to listen, predict, and act out parts of the story. During center at the library or the calming corner they use puppets to retell favorites, excitedly repeat familiar phrases, and proudly point out letters they recognize. Books are also part of our daily play, from \"reading\" menus in the dramatic play area to exploring nonfiction texts in our science center.\r\n\r\nWe've seen incredible growth in our students. A once-quiet three-year-old now confidently shares stories with her friends. Another student eagerly connects his love of trucks and construction to nonfiction books, proudly using new vocabulary. Your support has helped us create a classroom where confidence, language skills, and a love of reading are growing every day.
