The Afinia Einstar Handheld 3D Scanner has quickly become one of the most exciting and empowering tools our students have ever used. From the moment we unboxed the scanner, the energy in the room was electric. Students couldn't wait to see what it could do and they've been exploring its capabilities ever since.\r\n\r\nThis technology has allowed us to turn real-world objects into digital 3D models, an experience that not only feels like magic but also teaches valuable real-world engineering skills. Students began by scanning simple objects, learning how to process the data using the included software, and converting scans into 3D-printable files. But they didn't stop there. One of the most practical uses came during a robotics competition when a plastic component broke. Instead of waiting days for a replacement part, students scanned the damaged piece and printed a new one themselves along with extras to be ready for anything. This real-time problem-solving moment showed exactly how technology like this can make a difference under pressure.\r\n\r\nBeyond practical applications, the scanner has also sparked a lot of fun and creativity. Students have been experimenting with scanning each other. One group even scanned my head and printed a bust of me, which now proudly sits on a shelf in the lab! Another student used the scanner to create a 3D action figure of himself. These fun projects have helped build student confidence and encourage them to explore the scanner's capabilities in more detail.\r\n\r\nSome students have especially taken to this technology. Two of them took it upon themselves to study the user manual in-depth. They now act as our classroom \"experts,\" helping their peers create more accurate scans and better 3D models. Their initiative shows how access to advanced tools can bring out leadership and a deeper level of learning.\r\n\r\nMore than just a piece of equipment, the 3D scanner has opened doors. Students now understand how this technology is used in fields like manufacturing, healthcare, and game design. They're connecting what they learn in class to careers they can envision for themselves. It's helping bridge the gap between what they imagine and what they can actually create.\r\n\r\nThis project was made possible with support from the Riot Games Social Impact Fund and other generous donors like you. Your belief in our students and your willingness to invest in their futures is deeply appreciated. Your support gave them access to cutting-edge technology many had never seen before, and it's been inspiring to see how far they've already come.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving our students a tool that not only supports their education but also helps them dream bigger. The impact is already clear and it's only the beginning.","fullyFundedDate":1734623459457,"projectUrl":"project/scanning-the-future-empowering-stem-inn/8965580/","projectTitle":"Scanning the Future: Empowering Stem Innovators With 3D Technology","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Rincones (iTeachPi)","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5728982_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1534736129299","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/rincones"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_15860","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":618,"numTeachers":49,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":90,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":57.0,"schoolId":15860,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Port Isabel High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Port Isabel High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/point-isabel-independent-school-district/port-isabel-high-school/15860"}
