Your generosity has already made a meaningful and joyful impact in our AP Psychology classroom, and I am excited to share how your contribution has enriched our teaching and learning.\r\n\r\nThe AP review books you provided have been an enormous help. They allow students to review efficiently and to focus specifically on concepts they learned only partially or misunderstood during the first pass through the material. These books have helped students build confidence and accuracy, and they have quickly become one of our most valued study tools.\r\n\r\nThe fruit snacks were put to use immediately in one of our favorite class activities. I conducted a purposely botched \"experiment\" with the hypothesis \"Fruit snacks improve memory.\" Half the class received fruit snacks while memorizing a word list, and the other half, the control group, did not. To skew the results, I introduced a variety of confounding variables, including playing music and dancing dramatically while they tried to study. It was an unforgettable lesson in experimental design. Now, all I have to say is \"Fruit Snack Experiment,\" and students instantly recall what confounding variables are and how they can sabotage an experiment. (Of course, afterward I gave the control group fruit snacks, too, and they were very pleased!)\r\n\r\nYour donation of office and personal supplies has also been invaluable. These simple supports help students stay focused and comfortable so they can direct their full attention to learning. They recognize and appreciate the availability of these items more than you might imagine.\r\n\r\nBut the biggest hit of all has been the stickers and prizes. My students love earning items from our treasure box during Blooket games and other classroom challenges. When I pull out something new like fidget octopus keychains or kneadable erasers the entire class lets out an audible, collective sigh, then immediately buckles down to earn it. Their Chromebooks and water bottles are covered in stickers that reflect their personalities and interests. They adore visiting the \"sticker wall\" and choosing one that speaks to them. These stickers have become a timeline of their learning and a colorful record of their year.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has given me powerful tools to keep students engaged, motivated, and smiling. You've made our classroom a place where learning is joyful, interactive, and deeply memorable. Your support has made an immediate and meaningful difference in our AP Psychology classroom, and I'm excited to share just how much your donation has enriched our learning this year.\r\n\r\nOur Play-Doh proved to be an incredible tool for hands-on learning. Students sculpted eyes to trace how light transforms into neural impulses, and later built cochleae to model place and frequency theory for pitch perception. Both activities were highly successful—engaging, memorable, and effective. In fact, students scored higher on the unit test than in previous years. Many of them also found the tactile nature of Play-Doh to be soothing during October's hectic schedule, and they used it to ease stress during work time.\r\n\r\nOur sensation and perception unit truly came alive this year thanks to your support. Students experimented with gymnema sylvestre leaf to temporarily deaden their sweet receptors, which opened the door to some fascinating taste-testing with different candies. The Miracle Berries were a huge hit as well. The students brought in sour foods, amazed by how the berries made even the tartest flavors taste sweet. Their enthusiasm and curiosity filled the room.\r\n\r\nWe also used musk-flavored Lifesavers to demonstrate schemas in perception. When students tasted them, they instinctively used smell words rather than taste words because they had no existing schema for \"musk\" as a flavor. It sparked wonderful discussions and plenty of laughter.\r\n\r\nThe dry erase boards and markers have become classroom staples. Students use them daily to recreate concepts, review material, and practice tables. They even prefer dry erase markers over scratch paper during online tests, reducing paper use significantly. \r\n\r\nThe mints you provided have quickly become a beloved classroom tradition as well. Students help themselves to a mint when they need one, and I use them as a gentle, caring way to help sleepy students refocus. Simply placing a mint on a desk speaks volumes now.\r\n\r\nThe ear plugs have been equally appreciated, especially during assessments. Many students find them invaluable for blocking distractions and doing their best work. And the office supplies and Chromebook chargers have been essential in keeping our classroom organized, functional, and stress-free.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, we also started a new and very popular tradition this year: each student crafted a small keychain, and for every major grade they earn a B or higher on, they receive a bead. This has been an incredibly motivating and joyful addition to our classroom culture.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has transformed our learning environment. The supplies you funded helped make this year truly spectacular, and my students and I are incredibly grateful. I'm excited to continue using these materials in the upcoming units and to build on the curiosity and enthusiasm you've helped inspire.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity and for supporting my students' education in such a meaningful way.","fullyFundedDate":1755696416232,"projectUrl":"project/engaging-activities-in-ap-psychology/9421532/","projectTitle":"Engaging Activities in AP Psychology","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lucas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8508552_orig.jpg?crop=407,407,x0,y270&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1656190076866","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sara-lucas"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_7903","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2106,"numTeachers":166,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":14,"percentWhite":31,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":37,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":82.2,"schoolId":7903,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hendrickson High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hendrickson High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/pflugerville-independent-school-district/hedrickson-high-school/7903"}
