I have used these resources in both my small group counseling sessions and whole group guidance classes, from Pre-K to Fifth grade.\r\n\r\nIn whole class guidance, the books have helped explain the concept of \"bucket filling\" and the tools have helped make reading to the class an interactive experience. For example, after reading the book Buckets, Dippers, and Lids, kindergarten students sorted \"bucket filler\" actions vs. \"bucket dipper\" actions using the mini buckets and wands. Older kids created bucket lids using paper plates to remind them that we all have a choice to close our invisible bucket and avoid being hurt by \"bucket dippers\". While all students are enjoying the new materials, certain groups are particularly impacted. For our youngest students, the \"bucket filling\" concept is simple and relatable. The idea of filling an invisible \"bucket\" with kind acts gives them a visual, making the lessons on kindness more tangible and easy to understand. For our older students who sometimes struggle with big emotions or challenging behaviors, these books are a powerful tool. They offer examples of how characters perform acts of kindness and solve problems in peaceful ways, giving these students a positive model to follow. \r\n\r\nDuring small group counseling, we delve deeper into kindness, empathy, and the impact of our actions. These materials have sparked meaningful discussions and allowed students to practice these skills in a fun and interactive way. With a first grade group, I used the Be Kind Cubes to guide a discussion on the power of manners and why good manners are important in our daily interactions. It's been encouraging to see students understand how their actions can fill or empty someone's \"bucket\" and hear students use the common \"bucket filling\" language when referring to speaking with one another. \r\n\r\nYour donation is fostering a culture of kindness and compassion among our students. I look forward to continuing to use these resources to help our students grow into kind and thoughtful human beings.","fullyFundedDate":1734648699517,"projectUrl":"project/we-show-kindnessyes-we-do/8738054/","projectTitle":"We Show Kindness...YES WE DO!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Montemayor","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2445780"},{"teacherId":9727349,"projectId":8735446,"letterContent":"I used the yoga mats for my students during small group counseling. They were used to teach the students mindfulness-based stretches over several sessions. These exercises enhanced my sessions on stress management and coping skills. I also organized a school-wide Zen Kids Club where all students are invited to participate every Monday morning. During these club meetings, students use the mats and breathing tools to stretch their way into a calm week and are encouraged to set mindful intentions for the week ahead. The breathing tools were utilized to help students learn to focus on deep, controlled breathing while in their stretches or in every-day activities that may result in big emotions.\r\n\r\nThe students reacted curiously when presented with the new materials and many kids asked how they were going to be used during our sessions. One student even commented that the mats made the office appear so much more peaceful.\r\n\r\nIn addition to using the mats and tools with more students during counseling sessions, I plan to expand the Zen Club by incorporating new ideas to use with my new materials. Furthermore, I also would like to organize resources for parents where they can learn techniques for incorporating mindfulness, stretching, and breathing exercises at home.","fullyFundedDate":1726709387785,"projectUrl":"project/mindful-movements/8735446/","projectTitle":"Mindful Movements","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Cantu","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9727349"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_14585","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":477,"numTeachers":50,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":86,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.5,"schoolId":14585,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Virginia Myers Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Virginia Myers Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/northside-independent-school-district/virginia-myers-elementary-school/14585"}
