At the end of the school year, we found out our project had funded. When school started, the students were excited to learn how to use everything. They worked on developing a menu with flavors (Barbie - Strawberry Coconut and Peach Ring - Peach and Strawberry are favorites so far!). There was a day of taste testing and perfecting recipes before moving on to fun names for their creations. Then, we spent some time figuring costs to see how much to charge. Next, the students designed menu boards, and my juniors made a poster for the table. We had a practice week selling to the staff and welcomed their feedback to perfect our recipes. Friday evening we had our first public sale. The kids set up in the trophy room outside the gym and worked pretty much nonstop for 3 1/2 hours. The volleyball girls came running to us when they finished their game- so excited to report that everyone in the stands had one of our lemonades. To say the students are all in is an understatement. We ran out of lemons and had to close the booth with a few people still in line. None of us could have anticipated the positive response. As I fell into bed Friday night, pretty exhausted from such an exciting evening, I realized I didn't take any pictures. They are selling again at the upcoming alumni game. I will make a point to take pictures to share. Thank you so much for supporting our students.","fullyFundedDate":1746448607425,"projectUrl":"project/entrepreneurs-turning-lemons-into-lemona/9191495/","projectTitle":"Entrepreneurs Turning Lemons into Lemonade","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kaudelka","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kaudelka"},{"teacherId":1490468,"projectId":9129567,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the snacks for state competition! The students were excited when they received their care packages. They are amazed that someone cares about their success outside of our little community. What an incredible impact you have had on our kids. \r\n\r\nThe girls did amazingly at state competition. All of our teams placed in the top 5! Two of our teams are advancing to Nationals in Orlando. \r\n\r\nAt state competition, the snacks and drinks really helped the students financially, as well. Our convention is in a pricey hotel, and there isn't budget friendly food readily available. It was nice to have a fun option in their rooms for them. \r\n\r\nOur little chapter has come so far. It seems like just yesterday I was taking a group to their first competition. You have been there from the start. Thank you for helping us build our program! The cart has helped so much. We are able to move our commercial mixer into the kitchens. This helps with keeping everything clean and sanitary. It also lifted the mixer up to a height that is much more accessible for our students.\r\n\r\nWhile I have a chance, I also want to let you hear how our students did at Regional Competition. This year, we took more kids than we ever have. I was a little nervous about taking so many and making sure they had everything they needed to prepare their presentations, but they did so good! We had 4 teams: Sports Nutrition Level 2 (freshmen), Sports Nutrition Level 3 (seniors), Entrepreneurship Level 2 (freshmen), and Nutrition and Wellness Level 3 (juniors). The Sports Nutrition 2, Entrepreneurship 2, and Nutrition and Wellness 3 groups all placed 1st. The senior group in Sports Nutrition Level 3 placed 2nd. We have state competition in April. If they place in the top 2 at state, then we will go to Nationals in Orlando this summer. They are working hard on their speeches preparing for the tough competition ahead. (I am going to sneak in a few pictures from competition with our thank you pictures for the cart.)\r\n\r\nThank you so much for supporting our program through the years.
