One of my favorite moments was watching them use playdough to roll small balls and tap out syllables in words. This activity really helped them connect physical movement to language skills, and I could see several students having \"aha\" moments as they began to hear and count syllables more confidently.\r\nWe also used connecting links alongside elephant number cards to practice counting. Another big hit was using dinosaur counters on ten frames. The students eagerly placed each \"dino\" as they counted.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. There were smiles, lots of questions, and a strong eagerness to start exploring. \r\n\r\nAs for next steps, we're building on these foundational skills by encouraging students to explain their thinking. For example, when using ten frames, they're beginning to describe how they know a number without counting each object. With syllables, we're moving toward identifying syllables in longer words and connecting that knowledge to early reading skills.
