This project allowed them to directly apply abstract concepts such as potential and kinetic energy, torque, and friction in a hands-on, engaging way. Instead of simply calculating values on paper, they were able to design, build, test, and refine vehicles while seeing the science come to life before them.\r\n\r\nWhen I first introduced the materials, the students' excitement was immediate and contagious. We had very low quality scissors in the past and this is my second year to have most of these students in some capacity. Many were surprised at how a simple mousetrap could power a car, and they were eager to begin building. The classroom was filled with curiosity and energy, with moments of laughter when a car barely moved balanced by cheers when a design raced successfully across the room. These reactions underscored just how impactful hands-on learning experiences can be.\r\n\r\nOnce the cars were built, the students were able to complete a lab, where they measured distance, calculated the speed, and acceleration of their cars. This project is building not only their understanding of core physics principles, but also their problem-solving, collaboration, and perseverance. Your support has truly made this learning possible, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to give my students a chance to see science in action.","fullyFundedDate":1750217913767,"projectUrl":"project/mousetrap-car-racing/9382388/","projectTitle":"Mousetrap Car Racing","teacherDisplayName":"Coach Salazar","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10044893"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_11954","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":132,"numTeachers":17,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":14,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":82,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"7.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":0.0,"schoolId":11954,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lockney High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lockney High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/lockney-independent-school-district/lockney-high-school/11954"}
