Thank you for making it possible for our classroom to have our very own carpet! Especially in first grade, having an area in our classroom where all of us can come together to learn and collaborate is vital. First graders need space, but they also need structure. This carpet gave us plenty of wiggle room, but also ensured that each student knew the boundaries of their own cheerful \"smiley face\" spot. I have taught countless lessons while students sat comfortably and engaged. Students have convened together for self-directed learning on our rug as well; reading, writing, and working on projects together. Most importantly, it has become the favorite area for our moments as a classroom family.\r\n\r\n I would love to personally share just one of these many moments with you. The Christmas season is a special time at our school, and one day in particular is among my class's favorite memories: \"Polar Express Day.\" From start to finish, our classroom carpet was an integral part of the festivities. We started the day reading Christmas stories together on the carpet. Later, we met all together on our spots as we eagerly awaited the arrival of our very own Polar Express conductor and Santa Clause as they came to clip our golden tickets. The day similarly culminated on our carpet while we watched the movie \"The Polar Express\" and sipped marshmallow-laden hot chocolate from thermoses. By the end of the movie, most of the kiddos were sprawled out on the carpet (with more than one having drifted off to sleep). They commented how soft and cozy our rug felt; a feeling that went much deeper than the mere texture.\r\n\r\nAn adult sees something as simple as a classroom carpet as being only that– a carpet. For young children, it means something so much more. It adds color and joy to their world. This was evident the first morning after our carpet arrived as students' eyes filled with wonder upon entering the room and seeing it for the first time. Many of the students began dancing and jumping up and down on the carpet. Others sat down and started tracing the smiley faces and polka dots with their fingers, and a few even laid down and tried to make \"rug angels.\" Yet, our classroom carpet has come to mean even more than that. It has become the \"living room; \" the heart of our classroom. As I reflect on our \"Polar Express memory,\" I realize that our special carpet has helped to create a space for all of us that feels like home.\r\n\r\nAlong with the children, I thank you for making our wish a reality- not only for this school year, but for school years yet to come.","fullyFundedDate":1728487826004,"projectUrl":"project/your-spot-take-a-seat-or-jump-to-your-f/8457414/","projectTitle":"Your Spot: Take a Seat or Jump to Your Feet!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Steele","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9570339_orig.jpg?crop=1539,1539,x0,y235&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1718512320671","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9570339"},{"teacherId":9813492,"projectId":8898577,"letterContent":"We are so grateful and thankful for your funds for our classroom rug!
