We started off by discussing shapes. We discussed organic shapes and geometric shapes. It was the perfect opportunity to have some cross curriculum by reviewing shapes for the upcoming math state test, such as prisms, pentagons, parallelograms, etc. \r\nAfter discussing all the shapes that affect us, we honed in on organic shapes and forms. This is where the river rocks came in. I let the students choose 3 river rocks (organic forms) and glue them to their mat board. Then then took the glue and made an organic design around the rocks. After that, they covered the glue with sand.\r\nThe project was then set aside to dry. The following week we took watered down tempera paint and dropped this paint (colors of their choosing) onto certain areas of their design. They then spread the paint and chose to either let the colors mix or keep them separate with their sand designs. We let them dry again and then took pictures with their masterpieces the following week. The students were incredibly proud of their designs.
