As a school counselor, books are very often the way that I begin connecting with students. When students see themselves in books, they understand they are not alone when dealing with social emotional issues that come their way.\r\n\r\nTo start this year, I have shared many of the books with my students. One in particular that we read featured a good-natured shark that was a little too rambunctious starting his new school year, but learned things like respect and self-control so that he could do his best learning. This was a perfect story to share with my younger students who sometimes need a little reminder about these things, as well.\r\n\r\nI can't wait to continue to share other stories with my students throughout the year. The welcoming, zen environment created by the decorations immediately made the space feel calm and inviting, which was especially important as they adjusted to a brand-new school. Many students commented that it felt \"peaceful\" and \"like home,\" and I could see their comfort level rise right away.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the new setup as part of our daily lessons by creating a calm corner for reflection and group discussions, which has helped students stay engaged and focused. One specific moment that stood out was during a math small-group activity—students mentioned how nice it felt to work together in a space that looked \"special\" and \"organized.\"\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be building on this positive environment by starting collaborative projects where students design anchor charts and add to our classroom displays. This will allow them to take ownership of the space while also reinforcing what we're learning academically. Having their reading materials organized and easy to reach has made such a difference in our classroom. Now, students proudly take responsibility for choosing their own books and returning them neatly to the shelf. The binders have also been a wonderful addition—they are being used to keep student work organized, which helps them track their progress and celebrate how much they are learning.\r\n\r\nThe magnetic shelves and writing paper have quickly become favorites during lessons. Students love coming up to the board, moving materials around, and writing their ideas on the magnetic paper. This small change has made whole-group lessons much more interactive, and it gives every student a chance to contribute to our discussions. One special moment was when a shy student confidently walked up to the board to share their answer for the first time—something that happened because they were so excited to use the new magnetic paper.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these resources will continue to support our reading, writing, and classroom organization every single day. Your kindness has made a remarkable difference in the lives of our students, many of whom face challenges when it comes to accessing food.\r\n\r\nThroughout the day, we see students who come to school hungry, whether they missed breakfast or didn't have a proper meal at home. Your donation has played a crucial role in ensuring that these students have a nutritious snack to help them through the day, especially as they head into the afternoon when hunger can strike the hardest. It warms my heart to see them enjoy the snacks and feel cared for during these moments.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, your generosity has allowed us to support families in crisis. We have been able to bless a few families with snacks during emergencies, providing them with comfort and reassurance in difficult times. Your contribution is not just about food; it is a reminder to our students and families that they are not alone and that there is a caring community behind them.\r\n\r\nWe are incredibly thankful for your support. The impact of your donation extends beyond satisfying hunger; it nurtures the spirits of our students and families. How are you and your students using the new resources? Share a specific classroom project or moment.\r\nWhen I did this project, it was at the beginning of the school year, and these items arrived at the perfect time. As I prepare for my maternity leave, these organizational tools have been invaluable in setting up a system that will keep my classroom running smoothly while I'm away. The rolling storage cart has been used to categorize and store student supplies, while the magnetic holders keep essential materials like markers and pens readily accessible for the substitute teacher. The file organizers and binder dividers have helped me organize lesson plans, student work, and resources, ensuring everything is easy to find. These tools have not only improved our daily routines but also set my classroom up for success during this transition.\r\n\r\n2. How did your students react when they first saw the materials?\r\nMy students were excited to see the classroom transform with the new tools! They immediately noticed how much more organized and efficient everything had become. One student said, 'It feels like a whole new classroom!' Seeing their enthusiasm reassured me that these resources will help them thrive, even while I'm away.\r\n\r\n3. Your donors got a little peek into your classroom by contributing to your project, and we know that they'd love to learn more. What are the next steps for your students on a current classroom lesson or project?\r\nWith everything now organized, the next steps for my students are to continue focusing on their current projects and lessons seamlessly. The labeled dividers and file organizers will help them independently access their materials, while the substitute teacher will benefit from the clear systems in place.
