Since receiving them, my students have been introduced to popular Dr. Seuss characters, such as, The Cat in the Hat, The Grinch, Sam, amongst many others. They have loved getting to know about these characters and exploring the wonderful worlds they come from during our daily story time. Many of them have now started choosing these books during our silent reading time from our classroom library and teaming up to tackle the stories. The pencils and other Seuss themed incentives that were provided have served as perfect prizes to those students who are working on their reading fluency and skills. \r\nMany of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds so they really do not have access to books at home or to storytime designated reading time. Having these books in our classroom has been very important for their development and to get them hooked on a practice that will benefit them for the rest of their lives. Most of these books and series were chapter books, however, all of these contain beloved stories that help shape values and character in young minds, therefore, I believe that it was important to expose my students to these adventurous and classic stories at a young age. \r\nIn our classroom, I like to include daily reading time during our circle time towards the end of the day, to leave my students with a valuable lesson, value, or great story to take home. Since this year my students are still in pre-kinder and learning to read, I usually read out loud to them. I chose to read one of the series gifted to me through your donation, Little House on the Woods, to start exposing them to family values and life lessons at an early age. With these books, they are learning about family, about daily life hardships and most importantly a bit of history about life in early America. \r\nThis book series is very well known and the reality is that a lot of my students would probably not have learned about it this early on because they do not have access to books or reading time at home. They are truly enjoying the books and look forward to our reading time at the end of the day to learn more about Mary and Laura, the beloved characters. \r\nI plan to start one of the other new series that was gifted as soon as we finish this one. During early years, I believe that children should be exposed to popular stories, with well known characters that promote values and key life lessons through the many adventures they go through. One of the most prominent stories that encompasses all of this is the tale of Peter Rabbit. Thanks to your donations, I was able to acquire the entire collection of Beatrix Potter's stories and my students are delighted with the new addition to our classroom library. These stories are amazing because every different character presents us with a life lesson, a moral, or promotes values that are important early in child's life. These lessons will be key in their learning journey and will allow them to become kind beings as they continue throughout their academic journey. \r\nWhen we get reading time during our day, my students sit in our classroom carpet while I read out loud to them and they were delighted to find new unique books in our library, being that some of the donated books are from different editions, some being tiny and others being board books. All of my students are starting to fall in love with these stories and are starting to find joy in the art of reading. Upon arrival of them, my students were overcome by joy. They could not believe that we had so many new prizes and a brand new claw machine to incorporate into our prize wall. As mentioned in my project, I established a rewards system in my pre-kinder classroom that motivates my students during the day to be kind, participate in class, and turn in their work, all while being on their best behavior. At the end of the day, when students meet the standards, they are able to play with our new claw machine and test their luck to obtain one of the small incentives within the claw machine. At the end of the week, the students who went above and beyond get to pick a bigger incentive from the prize wall. Overall, the prizes that you all have kindly donated have helped improve my classroom behavior by getting them motivated to earn something at the end of the day. Jointly, it has allowed my students to get more involved in their daily activities and participate when called on to earn time with the fun claw machine. With the head start I got from your contributions, I plan to acquire more prizes in order to continue fueling my students' motivation and get them eager to continue in their academic journey. Along the book buddies, we also obtained companion books that have been a hit amongst my students and a lot of them aim to finish their work fast to be able to spend some time in our classroom library learning more about those beloved characters. \r\nWhen my students first saw all the new plush characters that we had acquired, they were overwhelmed with joy! They immediately wanted to know their names and were ready to learn their story.
