It was definitely a busy year. I received all the materials by the end of January, and it was such a relief. I was almost running out of tape, color paper, and other materials my kids to use daily. \r\n\r\nThe first thing we did was refill all the tape dispensers for each group of desks. As part of keeping their journal organized, students had to tape their notes pages into their journal, as well as specific assignments for later grading. Having between 21 and 29 students in a classroom, a great amount of tape was used by the end of the first semester. The Donors Choose supplies arrived just in time for the new semester.\r\n\r\nSome other materials that were a huge relief were the Kleenex and the dry erase markers for the kids. My students were thrilled with the Kleenex since they constantly use a lot of it (too many allergies go around in TX), and we had already run out. The dry erase markers replaced many of the dry ones they were making due with for a while. They were excited to work with the whiteboards and actually see what they were writing.\r\n\r\nWe appreciate all the other materials as well. All the paper took the load off of the math department supply budget, which is very limited. (Side note: I didn't use any of the math department's paper supply for the 2nd semester thanks to this donation, and they still ran out of paper by the beginning of May. Classes ended May 29th). Everything else benefit the class in various ways. Thank you again for supporting my class, and I hope you'll continue to support other teachers in their endeavors.","fullyFundedDate":1733181079040,"projectUrl":"project/class-essentials/8848393/","projectTitle":"Class Essentials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mercado","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9787064"},{"teacherId":6781869,"projectId":8859319,"letterContent":"The introduction of state-of-the-art laboratory equipment has significantly transformed our high school science department, bringing numerous benefits to both students and educators. This project has had a profound impact on our classroom in several key areas:\r\n\r\nIncreased Laboratory Experimentation Frequency\r\nWith the new and functional lab equipment, we have been able to significantly increase the number of experiments conducted throughout the academic year. Each student now has the opportunity to engage in at least one lab experiment per week. This hands-on approach has allowed students to actively participate in the learning process, making science more tangible and exciting.\r\n\r\nImproved Student Engagement and Understanding\r\nThe hands-on learning experiences provided by the new equipment have made complex scientific concepts more accessible and engaging for students. By conducting experiments that are closely aligned with real-world applications, students have developed a deeper understanding of subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Aquatic Science, Environmental Systems, Anatomy and Physiology, and Astronomy. This practical approach has sparked students' curiosity and passion for science, leading to increased enthusiasm and participation in class.\r\n\r\nEnhanced Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills\r\nRegular experimentation has helped students develop essential skills in forming hypotheses, designing experiments, collecting data, and interpreting results. These activities have enhanced their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, which are crucial for success in higher education and STEM careers. The new equipment has provided students with the tools they need to explore scientific principles in depth and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.","fullyFundedDate":1733248907180,"projectUrl":"project/enhancing-science-education-through-impr/8859319/","projectTitle":"Enhancing Science Education Through Improved Laboratory Facilities","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Waters","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6781869_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1648901481529","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6781869"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_109275","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1688,"numTeachers":71,"percentFrplEligible":71,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":18,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":55,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"23.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.0,"schoolId":109275,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Veterans Memorial High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Veterans Memorial High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/judson-independent-school-district/veterans-memorial-high-school-opening-fall-2016-/109275"}
