With the incubators, students are able to monitor temperature, humidity, and egg rotation just like real poultry producers. The brooding boxes give the newly hatched chicks a safe, warm space where students can learn about proper heat management, bedding, and nutrition. The egg candler has become a favorite tool—students love checking embryo development and tracking growth from day to day.\r\n\r\nStudent Reactions\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the incubators and brooding boxes set up, their excitement filled the room. Many had never seen an egg candler before, and watching their faces light up when they saw a tiny heartbeat inside an egg was unforgettable. They were eager to take ownership of the process and immediately started making predictions and observations.\r\n\r\n\r\nWhat's Next for Our Classroom Project\r\n\r\nThe next step in our poultry unit is for students to create their own data logs, tracking hatch rates, chick growth, and environmental conditions. They'll compare their findings to real poultry industry standards and present what they learned about responsible breeding and animal care. As the chicks grow, students will also practice safe handling techniques and learn about nutrition, housing, and biosecurity.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, my students now have access to hands-on, meaningful agricultural experiences that spark curiosity and build real-life skills.
